Buying bed slats (Lattenrost) for a bed

Help with understanding the sizes

So I thinking about ordering a bed online from IKEA (been sleeping on a futon for a month and it's killing my back). Anyway, I am having trouble picking a lattenrost (bed slate frame things) for the bed.

So a 140cmx200cm mattress is closest to a full size bed in the american equivalent and I want to buy a 140cm frame and mattress. But the slates don't come in 140cm. The product SULTAN LADE has slates in increments of 10cm from 70 to 100. So I suppose I should buy 2x 70cm? What if I wanted to buy something like SULTAN LIARED? It doesn't have a 70cm wide slate. Do I then just buy the largest, 100cm?

I think the SULTAN LIEN is what I have back home in the US, but it's just one piece not too for a full size bed. Also, the reason why I want to maybe buy better Lattenroste is because the ones I have at home in the states are the cheapest they had and um, they can be loud when you move around in bed a lot...

I'd really appreciate any help, info, advice you guys can give!

Right,

The Sultan Lade is a real cheapie which does not have a frame (Just loose slats). With this you cannot put 2 of them in next to each other as they will likely fall out. Unframed lattenrost are only suitable for putting in a bed on their own.

The Sultan Liared is also a cheapie with no frame. But it is a bit better than the Lade as it has rubber ends to stop them slipping/creaking. As it has no frame, it is also only suitable for putting in a bed on its own. I guess they don't have 70 cos 70 beds are really small and don't warrant the extra goodness of rubber ends - just a guess.

I don't see any framed 70cm wide lattenrosts there so I guess you just need a 140cm wide one. Try the Sultan Lillaker - an unframed one for 50 Eur. OK it costs a bit more but that's the price you have to pay for a decent nights sleep. I'd recommend paying a bit more for a framed one by the way - Sultan Komet for 102Eur

Hope this helps, the whole lattenrost thing can seem confusing at times.

I don't think you be buying the cheapest lattenrost particularly if you have back problems. We recently bought the Lillsele lattenrost and Hasselback mattress (140) for our daughter and she is very happy with it. You have to be careful with the cheaper ones - it depends on the weight of the mattress and person as to which base they recommend. We also didn't have much choice. There are a lot of different frames listed but actually we only had a choice of 2 in the shop.

My bed is 140cm wide and I used to use 2x70cm. There's a large metal bar that runs down the middle of the bed that they rest upon. The bed was one of the more expensive ones so you'll have to see if the bed you want has this bar.

After a while I found that the effect of one person sleeping on two curved Lattenrost was that the mattress would sag in the middle, so now I have a 140cm-wide Lattenrost.

Very good to know too, thanks!

Wow, lattenrost are expensive. When you guys say unframed, do I really need a framed one? If I'm buying a bed from IKEA (like the MALM), that is the frame I think. The lattenrost shoudl fit right in, correct?

Sorry for the million questions. I'm trying to order a bed from IKEA online maybe without making a trip to the store (avoiding floods of students) and I don't want to have to deal with returns or exchanges.

It should fit right in, it doesn't have to be framed as far as I'm aware. According to the website, the MALM comes with the "HAMAR Mittelbalken", which is that metal bar down the middle, so you could use 2x70cm. Otherwise I have the SULTAN LILLÅKER, €50 for 140x200cm.
