I was refused buying meat in Tengelmann

In Germany, the customer is always wrong

I like to buy Patros feta cheese with "Kräuter" as opposed to "natur". Anyhow, Rewe stopped stocking it after the changeover from Minimal Then recently (summer) I noticed it was back on the shelves So I merrily bought it every week...only to discover a couple of weeks ago it had disappeared AGAIN. The woman was just stocking the shelves so I asked her if they were getting more in...the answer "No, it's only a summer product"! WTF!! Who are they to tell the customer which season to eat what food products...seems plain feta is ok for winter but not the one with herbs...I'll never understand their logic no matter how long I live here.

Is there a possibility here that Patros doesn't offer feta with herbs in winter, and it's not Rewe's choice not to stock it? Maybe Patros wants to use fresh herbs they can get at a reasonable price, not possible in the off-season? Just a guess. Sometimes these things do make sense.

I was surprised a few years ago to notice that some kinds of chocolate are not available in summer, but it does make perfect sense given the difficulty of keeping chocolate in good condition for transport during the warmer season.

My sister wanted to order a Greek salad with no feta at Alter Wirt Ramersdorf once and was refused. Grieschischer Salat ohne Feta ist keiner Grieschische Salat! She was made to take a different salad with ham and Swiss cheese instead. (No, I don't think they make their salads ahead there.)

yes MonksTown but catering to individual preference is what customer service is all about. You have just concluded that the best approach is that the person behind the counter is always right.

And I discovered here that Stilton cheese is a seasonal product, only available (here) in the winter half of the year. So there you go.

The Grüner Markt in Perlach has Stilton all year round. I never had any problems getting Stilton in July back in England, either. Seasonal stocking maybe something to do with the Christmas market (leisure time to sit around with port, walnuts and hunks of gorgeous smelly blue cheese *sigh*)?

Nope.

If a customer buying a fair bit of stuff says to me I'd like he'd like an extra wrap of black plastic around his products then no problem.
It can reduce theft, water damage and the application thereof is relatively less consuming of our resources:
It's fairly quick to do and he is a large-ish customer.

But a small customer who want to his products wrapped in strips of frilly pink crepe paper and nothing else won't get his wish fulfilled.
It's a pointless excercise, very resource consuming and will mean the product is unfit for its purpose.

We'll try and firmly but politely talk the customer out of it.
If he insists, we'll do it for him, at a price.

If you INSIST on having fairly intricate butchery work doing on a piece of meat that you are going to ruin in the way you want to cook it then don't expect it at the supermarket.

Used it where? Come on, the credit card is seriously unaccepted here in Germany..

I've used my credit card in LOADS of restaurants, hotels, (higher class) bars, department stores, chain stores and for buying travel.

There are some locally owned shops and small stores that only do EC for well known reasons and of course, the food retailers, but I don't find it a ral crisis like some whinging TTers.
