Hi folks,

am going around the bend here. I have a snuffelly nose, a crappy throat and all I can think of is buying (not cooking) a nice spicy indian take-away...to blow out this blasted cold. I cannot find any on the web anywhere here...I haven't see anything but Nordsee, McDonalds and of course the Kebab Haus. Are Indian take-aways hard to find in small towns? Are there any clues as to how I could be searching better? All I can find is the Taj Mahal in Neustrasse and as far as I can tell, they don't do take-away. sad.gif((

what do ya reckon? Am starving and grumpy by now...

That's the only one I've found in Trier.
Of course, if you don't mind the hour-long round trip, there's about 6 that I know of in Luxembourg City, all of which do take-aways. Might be a bit cold by the time you get them back though.

A bit of a gap in the posts, I know, but I had a takaway from the Taj Mahal ast week.
I assume you're over your cold by now, but good to know they do takeaways for the furture

This is an old post I know, but there's an excellent Indian Restaurant in Wittlich, 20 mins from Trier. They've just changed premises so I'll need to dig out the new address. If I forget, give me a nudge.

Hi guys,

was just checking in tonight and saw the replies. Funnily enough ate an indian meal from restaurant at the university. It's not bad but I think it lacks the through authentic indian flavour. It's a restaurant that caters for most tastes, not especially indian.

Anyho, GerryM, thanks for the tip about the Taj Mahal. Had no idea they did take away and that's actually quite close to where we live. Checked their website on nite of original post and they make no mention of it. So thanks for the heads up. How was your take away? Used to find sometimes indian take-away could be a bit greasy. Would you recommend it?

Tomgraham, I don't believe I've been to Wittlich yet but am learning to drive on the right side of the road at last so I may make my first big car drive out in that direction now that I have a goal. Have to use that ole 5th gear sometime wink.gif

If you have that address sometime, that would be great. Wouldn't be the first time I drove a distance for a decent indian biggrin.gif

Cheers and slán

Their takeaways are ok- I've been back a couple of times so I suppose that counts as a recommendation! I wouldn't have said the ones we've had were especially greasy. I've asked for the sauce to be spicy, but, as expected, German spicy falls well short of UK spicy!
Looks like a nice reataurant too- I'm planning on having a sit-in meal there soon.

I've been planning a sit-in-meal there forever but have never got around to it. Which is most unusual given my love for Indian Restaurants. I think the fact it's upstairs has put me off till now. I like to be able to see in and suss out how many people are there and what's on their plates! Not very brave of me! Let me know how it goes!

Well, we finally got round to it on Saturday night, after discovering all the Chinese restaurants in the city centre were all closed, coincidentally, for renovations!?
We arrived at 9 and got the last table, in fact a group of 3 just a few minures after us were turned away. Service was as good as a lone husband and wife team in a busy reataurant could manage! Ok as long as you're not in too much of a hurray, which we weren't. Just remember to chase them up if you want another drink, cos they were too busy to notice empty glasses! Food was good, and the restaurant itself is very comfortable. I'd imagine one of the bay window seats over the street would be first to go. I think it was the first night of the smoking ban, judging by the steady stream of people getting up to go downstairs.
I'll definitely be back, for either takeaway or sit-in.

Cheers Gerry, thanks for the review smile.gif

They have a lunch time special so I think I'll venture in at lunchtime one of these days to give it a go. Indian is definitely one of my favourite foods, it feels weird just to have one restaurant to go to!

There's the GlasHaus Restaurant too up at the Uni. But it's a mixture of all sorts of cuisine, which is great if you're going as a crowd, there's something for everyone. Similar problem there, one girl seems to be waitressing about 20 tables, alone. I'm thinking perhaps one chef is cooking too. Is this a common theme in Germany?

Food is good there too and certainly the restaurant is always busy enough so people obviously don't mind the wait. They have some Indian dishes but I don't think it's the same as an authentic Indian restaurant. So I'll pop into the Taj Mahal soon. Especially if the smoking ban is enforced. There were still people smoking in the GlasHaus, but in fairness I wasn't reeking of smoke afterwards so it wasn't bad.

I'm just a bit surprised as we weren't very impressed when we were last in this restaurant. In fact we decided it was indian food for people who don't like indian food. Maybe there's been a change of operator or kitchen staff. Maybe we'll take another look.
GerryM
Well, we rarely go to 2 of the restaurants in our village, as whilst the food is good, the service is appalling- friendly, but appalling! In both cases, it's a husband and wife team with no other staff. A false economy, I think.
Re. the food in Taj Mahahl, like most places in mainland Europe, it's not a patch on a curry from the UK, but what we had on Saturday, and what we've had as takeaways before has always been a decent effort. Or maybe my tastes are adapting... blink.gif
