Hi everyone- you may think I'm a freak for going crazy about this- but I heard from a friend that there's a Taco Bell in Hamburg. He said it's on a street where a McDonald's is right across the street from Burger King and right next to that, there's a Taco Bell. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find anything about it on the Internet. I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know if there really is one there. Thanks!!! :0)

According to the last info on
Wikipedia...
QUOTE
Currently, there are no Taco Bell locations in German cities. AAFES does operate several locations at major US bases in southern Germany. These secure locations are located at: Ramstein Air Base near Kaiserslautern, Mannheim Gartenstadt, Heidelberg Shopping Center, Schweinfurt Ledward Barracks, Grafenwöhr PX Complex/Shopping Center, Baumholder and
Wiesbaden Hainerberg. After 9/11, access for non-military customers was severely restricted.

Taco Bell - GermanyI've eaten at one at the base in Stuttgart. Was seriously underwhelmed.

Old postQUOTE
Taco Bell, will not be opening a store in Germany. They are banned from doing so due to the exclusive contracts
they have with the US Military and the former owners of a German trademark/copyright on the name "Taco bell"..
Or This oneQUOTE
Dream all you want, but as long as the US Military is in Germany you will not have Taco bell out in the German Public... US Mil. has a sweetheart
deal for the next 10 years.. So unless they close all their TB's and cancel the contract the soonest you will find a TB is 2015...
Or for the full storyQUOTE
Good News: Taco Bell is in Germany...
Bad News: They are only located on the US Military Bases...
Why: Back in the late 90's when TB wanted to open in Germany there
was a small resturant somewhere that held the Trademark/right to use
of the word TacoBell. This old fart refused to budge or be bought out, thus TB
was blocked from entering the Market.
Flash forward to 2000, the old far is dies and his family sell the rights to the TM
to TB Inc. with the stipulation that TB will never open a resturant in germany
EXECPT for on US Military bases (Which are considered US Soil)...
And so that's the TB/Germany story. I believe the deal was for something like
10-20 years, so perhaps if TB is still around then perhaps well see one in MUC
So unless somebody can post an actual picture of this supposed TB in Hamburg, I ain't buy'n it..

Taco Bell, otherwise known as Taco Hell, is a low-end fast food version of Mexican Food. They are much beloved in the States, much like White Castles, by anyone who is slobbering drunk at 04:00 a.m. After about 15 Jägerbombs, those nasty burritos are just fabulous.
It's owned by Yum! Brands which has
KFC and Pizza Hut already in Germany so no reason they couuldn't introduce the franchise here. I'm still waiting for them to open an A&W root beer stand.

They could open under a different trading name, like
Hungry Jacks did in Australia
QUOTE
When Burger King decided to expand its operations into Australia, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a man running a small takeaway food shop in Queensland. As a result, Burger King provided the Australian franchisee, Jack Cowin, with a list of possible alternative names that the Australian Burger King restaurants could be branded as. The names were derived from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King and its then corporate parent Pillsbury. Cowin selected the "Hungry Jack" brand name, one of Pillsbury's US pancake mixture products, and slightly changing the name to a possessive form by adding an apostrophe 's' thus forming the new name Hungry Jack's.
If Taco Bell aren't here, then it's because they don't want to be here and the trademark issue is a convenient excuse.
To be honest, I've never found Taco Bell that great anyway...

The Okie (or southern? Apparently they are in other states as well) version of Taco Bell is Taco Mayo, it is also better than TB, and they could import that to Germany.

Is there Taco Bell anywhere else in Europe? I can't recall ever seeing any. Are they in the UK?
If not, then it's obviously not a market they believe they can (or have the desire) to crack.

Funny to see a second mention of Taco Bell in one day; this morning I read a rather humourous article about Taco Bell's attempts to market its 'Mexican' food to actual Mexicans.
QUOTE
"Something is lacking here," said customer Jonathan Elorriaga, 26. "Maybe the food shouldn't come with French fries."
From the Seattle Times:
Taco Bell's fare baffles MexicansPersonally, I love Taco Bell and wish there was one in Munich. I still remember pulling up to the drive-thru at the Taco Bell in my university town, scrounging up pennies and nickles from the floorboard of my car to buy a 39-cent bean burrito.

The company's branding strategy — "Taco Bell is something else" — is an attempt to distance itself from any comparison to Mexico's beloved taquerias, which sell traditional corn tortillas stuffed with an endless variety of fillings, from spicy beef to corn fungus and cow eyes
After reading the article I understood why Taco Bell wasn't succesful in Mexico, it's because they don't sell cow eyes.

I have thought for some time that Chipotle might be wildly successful in Germany, in part because they use fesh ingredients and also because they might be able to use
McDonalds' suppliers and distribution networks.

McDonalds source locally (ie here in Germany for German restaurants) so unless the suppliers also produce quacamole et al it won't help much them being owned by McDonalds.

I liked Del Taco more than Taco Bell anyway - similar shit. A bit like the difference between Burger King and
McDonalds.
But in the States, the one I liked best was Taco del Mar. Better quality and fresher - it took a bit longer to get your food, but worth it.

There is some kind of a Mexican food chain restaurant in London Choo choo's or something, went there a few years ago with some American friends, (I was not a happy camper as I wanted chish & fips or sausage & bacon) can't remember where it was either.
Anyway rewe & others sell taco shells/tortillas & salsa, so just make your own. You can always make some before you go out & then eat them cold when you get home plastered.

I ate Taco Bell in Warsaw about 10 years ago, I think I was desperate for some junk food as it was at the end of a 5 week trip round PL.
First and only time! Don´t know if its still there...it was at the height of the new companies flooding in the Eastern markets craze.

Yes, OG, I understand that; however, being owned in large part by McDonalds would help in negotiating lower prices for many items, not just foodstuffs, plus with many of the other costs of running a fast-food business in Germany, including distribution.

...but if they opened here, they'd have to bland the fuck out of their food. I've only eaten there once or twice (there aren't many where I come from...or at least weren't 4 years ago)...but from what I remember, they actually had flavor...Germans don't like that.
Now I'd damn near kill for a Taco John's...

There was a new Taco Bell opened on the Army base in Hanau in 2002. I suppose it's still there.
I had an American friend in Munich who was so jazzed after hearing he could get onto the military base in Stuttgart to go to Taco Bell, he drove there with a cooler and filled it up. Cured him of that itch, for sure.

I had Taco Bell from the base in Stuttgart. It smelled like my dogs food. One bite was more than enough. I don't understand the hype, maybe it's better in the US but I don't think I'd ever make a special effort to try it there either.
There's a chilli's on Ramstein, never actually eaten there though so can't vouch for the food served.

I tried the one in Mannheim, positively disgusting and they don't do shredded beef either, best Taco I had was in a tiny restaurant in Yuma, yummy. I have also tried a couple of German Mexican restaurants, they just don't seem to understand that pizza sauce is not the same as salsa!
