What's interesting about the title change? The sentiment is basically the same but without the use of the word "piss" which can be done without in topic titles. Anyway, the thread is still unsportsmanlike and basically a pile of bollocks. Celebrate a win by all means, but no need to be a gloating twat about it. Is it any wonder people dislike when certain teams win.

He's over there offering commiserations, a hand of friendship, a good word for a great and fair game between two proud teams. Did Flintoff go over and laugh in the face of the Aussie batsman at the 05 ashes when they lost the test in the last over. Nope. Why? Because sportsmen dont do that shit. Excellently put... well done to the Englishmen on the site for rebuking this nonsense...
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

How can you honestly take the piss out of the most succesful nation in rugby world cup history anyhow? Forget the two world cups to their name they have also constantly featured in the quarter's, semi's and world cup finals as well. Congratulations England, your forwards truly turned up and smashed our front row and won the game for you. However unless i was watching another game it was another well contested quarter final from the aussies only going down by 2 points.

I think there is a touch of oversensitivism here. I mean it was just a pretty weak joke that started this thread.
Having said that though, 80 minutes of scrapping does induce a lot of respect for the opposition and by extension sportsmanship, which maybe can only be really understood by people who have done it regularly (which for me was really only my school years).

It's not just minutes. It's days, months, years or decades. Doesnt matter what the sport, what the team, the commitment needed and shown by all players deserves a bit more respect, and something casual fans and band wagon jumpers dont realise, let alone non-sports people.
I personaly celebrate a great english performance that put a wee bit of pride back in my english heart. In fact after 15 minutes all the English guy's I was with on the day agreed, win or lose this performance is an inspirartional step up for the team and it's supporters. I don't need nor like to see this sort of shit. It's like the "anybody but the English" attitude. It's distasteful and spiteful to celebrate someone losing.

To be honest the Australians have more reason to gloat than us. They deported Rolf Harris who went on to have pop-chart success in the UK with "Jake the peg, Two little boys, Puppy dogs breath (I think that was a "double-a" hit) and a quite brilliant rendition of "Stairway to Heaven" with his "wobble-board".
He is still alive and well, making T.V appearances, painting his "Rolf-a-roos" whilst raking in millions that keep him in style in Sonning-on-Thames.
If there was a reason to seriously dislike Aussies, it is for letting Rolf leave Australia on a one-way ticket to the U.K.

I had wondered what happened to Rolf Harris. He was quite famous in Australia when I was young. Then he disappeared for years and showed up again on "The Money or the Gun" with Andrew Denton in the early 90's singing his version of "Stairway to Heaven". Then he was gone again.
I didn't know what had happened to him or where he had gone until about 7 years ago, when I lived in the UK for a few months. One day I turned on the telly and "Animal Hospital" was on...

@Lazybum I don't know why everybody suddenly turned on you. I'm an Aussie and I say bring it on!
Yes it's bad sportsmanship if your playing in a game and mock the losing team, but this is the Rugby World Cup. Its entertainment and the friendly piss taking is all part of it, especially between the Aussies, Kiwis and Pomms.
I think its crazy that there are some Aussies who are still crying about the loss and can't take a bit of a joke. Forget about the English being good winners, we should be good loosers and be able to take a bit of stick.
Admittedly we haven't had much practice at losing at sports

that might be the problem.

I really don't mind a bit of friendly ribbing or a bit of gloating after the game.
I just think that it's bad sportsmanship to not direct your energy to celebrating your team (or country), but instead in making fun (or taking the piss out) of the team you beat.
And I think we have been good losers (overall - there are always exceptions). There are always going to be a few wankers, but overall we've congratulated the English, we've conceeded we were beaten by a better team on the day, we haven't thrown blame at the refereeing or the conditions, or the draw.

I am still getting good mileage out of Englands 5-1 football win in Munich in 2001, and I still get reminded at every opportunity by my German colleagues of how bad we are at sport. It is part and parcel of keeping company with people not who were not born in your home nation. I enjoy it on the right level. 99.99% of us are not ever going to take part in the events themselves so a little humourous jousting with "the opposition" is as close as we get to competition.
What has happened here is lazybum was after a bit of what he thought was going to be good natured banter, and ran into a wall of people who take their sport probably a lot more seriously that he does. I think the typical Englishman is nowhere near as knowledgable about Cricket and Rugby, and probably sport in general, as the typical Aussie or Kiwi. I think they generally don't care as much either..Maybe it is hard to care about losing so much when you do it so often, who knows..
@ Lazybum. Shame you posted the "Fuck off to another thread post" as your first post was surely good natured, and I think some people just took it the way.
All credit to Austrailian,Kiwi & Saffa Sportmen who are some of the best in the world, and the people who are some of the most best natured there are. Beating such solid teams in any way, shame or form is a huge result for England so let us enjoy that and the bad jokes that go with it. I am quite sure it won't be long until we once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again and payback time comes around.
@ Hazza "With that attitude, you can't be surprised the next time you walk into a pub and everyone who's not English is supporting the opposition..."
It's not surprising mate, but it is disappointing that everyone seems to support 1) Their country of birth, and 2) Whoever is playing against England. England bashing just seems so fucking sheep like at times. Everyone hates England because everyone hates England. It would be nice to here an Aussie/Kiwi/Scot/Irishman say "I hope England beat France" as lets face it we have a lot more in common than either of us do with the Frenchies. If it were Australia vs Japan in a World Cup qualifier I can't think of many English who would be cheering on the Japenese.
