Okay, this is a bit silly, but I figure it can't hurt:
Since I had to work this morning and they did not, I left my visitors to sort for themselves at the Wiesn last night at about 9:30 or so (yes that is silly of me to leave so early, but that's not the worst bit).
They "met up" with some friendly guys on their way out of the tent and headed to a bar nearby the Wiesn. Got righteously smashed. One lost her wallet at some point, and believes she left it at the bar.
Unfortunately (ok, amusingly if not for the loss), she does not remember where the bar was or the name of it. Only that it was within about 4 blocks or so from the Wiesn, was reasonably sizeable, dark, had large windows, a neon sign of some sort, long tables (but formica type, not wooden beer hall type), some dancing, and lots of Americans there last night.
Any ideas as to what the bar might be?

Butterbean, I'm sorry to tell you, but it could be one of about 100 places, depending on which direction they headed. Best to get her to go back to the fest (sober) and see if she can remember which way they walked and can stumble across it again. Maybe someone knows exactly where you are talking about, but I don't. Sorry.

@shaggy - er, took a cab elsewhere before catching S bahn home...
@bubbly - yes! I think she did, which is what I keep reminding her. Last night before I left, she was ready to move here...
@showem - yeah, but I figured there wasn't anything to lose by asking the question. She's going back today to walk around. I didn't think there were thaaaaat many bars in that neighborhood, but hopefully she'll find it.

Sounds like the Augustinerbrau on Landsbergerstr. long tables.
Try the bars along Bayerstr. just down a bit from the EPO (toward town) They are right near the Wiesn. Also Schwanthalerstr. going into town away from the wiesn.
Good luck!

A neon sign and formica tables doesn't really bring the Augustinerbrau to mind. Does sound more like being down the Schwanthalerstr/Bayerstr route (Hauptbahnhof end), but as was already mentioned it really could be anywhere. I think I know at least 10 or so that fit the description given.

thanks guys. was hoping the couple block radius would narrow it down, but ah well. worth a shot.
this just in: the street was rather smallish, not one of the bigger strasses, and the bar was on a corner.
pitiful, I know. poor thing.

After
Oktoberfest on the 2nd of Oct. 2004...we went to a bar that was in back of a club with a blue sign that had a much longer line. It was a separate business from the club all together but right next to it or in back rather. My French buddy and I were refused entrance to the club so we went to this bar that we could see from the line of the club. I remember this bar had a comfy couch right in front of the door. The music was going and they had a outdoor area as well.
Any help would be much appreciated...good times in Munich.

socialjunkie, the bar you describe reminds me of
Cafe Blue. This is near the Wies'n (Poccistrasse direction), is located opposite
The Garden club, and has a terrace.

Hi Chalmondley...if Cafe Blue has a blue neon sign and is a dark building...then that´s the bar that wouldn´t let us in and we went to the Garden Club right opposite of it. Let me search some photos of the Garden Club and let you know. Nonetheless, you are a genius my friend...quite the memory.

Ok, the bar in question has a wood feel to it on the inside...dimmely lit...the staff seemed nice and they had a comfortable COUCH right in front of the door and behind the couch were outside patio tables with umbrellas. Right near, or what seemed to be in front of it, was a bar very dark, maybe black...with a neon blue or purple sign and a railing where the line formed. They reject myself and my buddy, and we preceded to turn the railing and walk past the neon sign to the bar described above. It was a great place...and like an idiot, I may have lost my camera there.
Any clue on the first bar would be greatly appreciated...if not that bar the neon sign club would help as well.
Danke everyone...good times!
