Hello Friends,
I'd applied for family visa from Pakistan as my wife is in Germany. But due to new family visa rules, now i've to provide German Language Certificate. Fortunately i'd completed the course last year and i've the required certificate.
I just want to ask you guys, that now i've to provide German Language Certificate only or at the visa counter they will ask some questions in "Deutsch" to judge german language skills. If they will ask something then kindly can anybody help me that which kind of questions will be asked, so that i may prepare myself for the interview.
I'll wait for ur kind replies.
Regards,
Azeem Ijaz

Who is entitled to take an
integration course ?
You are entitled to participate in an integration course if you are a resident of Germany and your first residence permit was issued after 1 January 2005 in one of the following categories:
... for the purpose of rejoining a family member already living in Germany ...

well I was also "quizzed" they asked me How I am doing today then my name and address.
Followed by if I understood all the information on the applications forms.
Asked me for my signature and that was it!
They cannot expect you to speak perfect German - not even the Germans can do that!

With new family rule , spouses from certain nationalities have to speak German to be able to live in Germany. As far as i know, this has been escalated to European Court of Human Rights for discrimination, but dont know when the hearing is.

Don't think it was much of a quiz, he asked me where I work and what my job is. Then he just told me how the process will work and that I need to bring my last 3 pay stubs when I come to pickup my visa. Maybe it was because I had dealt with him for the previous 3 years (renewal each year). Not sure, but hardly seemed like a serious test of my German.

This is because you are American. the new family rule is for mainly 3rd world countries

I think this is discriminating as no other country I know of asks one to speak their native language.
I was in Dubai and was never asked to speak a word of Arabic, friends of mine have gone to Sweden and still can't speak a word of Swedish - others to Holland and they were also not asked.
But personally I think they just want to see if you have already developed a phobia for the German Services "servicewuste-deutschland"
What I can remember :
Personal demographics
Family Status - Kids
Purpose of Visit
Proof of Funding (Sponsor info)
Documents will be required?
Visa applications for language courses must be accompanied
Photocopy of passport and previous Schengen visas, if applicable
Proof of sufficient funding / Formal obligation
Certification of medical insurance.
Proof that you already possess German-language skills or that you plan to attend an intensive language course (at least 20 hours per week) in Germany;

sharpe, my understanding is that this test only applies for the initial visa, is this correct? I ask so that no one gets confused by L8Knight's situation, which is AFAIK, not subject to this particular basic language test even for citizens of countries not exempted from it, this being because the visa applicant is not an initial applicant.

Right. this law is mainly passed to prevent Turkish people living in Germany to get married in Turkey and bring their wives here.

Having been to the KVR recently to have my VISA extended ,from what I gather all that they want to know is if you plan on staying for good(or say > 2 years). If yes,you are then asked to go over to those integration classes.
If you don´t then they don´t really force the issue of you having to learn German. In your case, however, as you possess a certificate and have shown intent of learning the language they will be well pleased.

I think the german authorities are really difficult when it comes to situations like this. But there is little one can do to change a german "oak tree". I lived in germany for a year before getting married and I remember what a nightmare it was to extend my visa everytime.
if you get the integration course take it - saves you 1500€ which you have to pay if you do it without the german governements funding. take it while it still gets offered . the course did not help me learn german though, that I learnt 3 years before off the street - but I have certificate from the state saying I am "integrated"!
