Hen night locations in England

Recommended cities to go to

Sooooo...my lil sis will soon be wed and we're talking about the Hen night arrangements for the 2nd week in January.

We'll be a bunch of girls (well mid-late twenties), about 10, looking for a new city (we're all from Glasgow) to go celebrate in and I thought I'd ask the TT collective for recommendations

2 of the girls are teachers so we need to be away Friday, back Sunday so we can't go too far and flight times from Glasgow are proving to be a right pain.

Apparently Leeds is looking like a fairly easy travel option and is meant to be a good night out, does anyone have any other ideas (not much further south and not Newcastle!) also any Leeds locals who can suggest good night venues...cocktails, bit of a boogie etc...

Also anybody know any good day spas in Leeds?

Thanks for any pearls of wisdom!

For a start, I'd suggest going by train rather than wasting your weekend sitting around at airports. Since most train services operate hourly, rather than only a handful of services per day as is the case with the airlines, you'll be able to travel at the times that suit you. Book the tickets in advance and it'll be cheaper than flying as well. Anywhere in northern England would be only 2-3 hours away, city centre to city centre. Blackpool is the obvious option but Manchester and York also spring to mind. Or Durham if you're posh.

Hiya,

I organised my sister's hen do back in January and did it mostly through Your bash. I think sometimes the packages are a bit overpriced but if you book one of the evening thing through them and organise the rest separately yourself it can be a lot cheaper.

We did a night in Leeds. Got a coach there from Manchester (9 pounds per person booked on Nat Express funfares), stayed in the Leeds Garforth Holiday Inn for 50 quid per twin room per night (got a group discount- just ask!) with breakfast and the hotel has a pool etc. (its about 12 pounds in a minibus to the centre, which they will also book at the hotel for you). We went for the comedy night at Jongleurs- really good, with a meal and then a club afterwards, although the comedy place had a dance floor etc. and music that came on after the show and we could have stayed there.

We did a cowgirl theme and for everything it came to 80 pounds per person, all of the above with a few cowgirl accessories each, 3 rounds of drinks and minibuses in and out of the city. Not bad at all and Leeds is a good night out

Go tacky and go to Blackpool

make sure you make it to Funny Girls Showbar when you are there. not to be missed.

Problem for me is my sister's friends are well and truly the marrying type, they have been dropping like flys lately and I'm pretty sure they did Blackpool already!

If anyone (even the lads!) has some general tips about going out in Leeds, it would be greatly appreciated! Oh and spa days as well...they seem to be sold on that at the mo

Forgot to add, thanks for the Your bash tip! I fancy the dog racing but as it's January I think I may be outvoted on that one! And we will be getting the train apparently..

Not sure if you're really set on the North for a location. Lived in Cardiff for several years when in the UK. It seemed to be the hen night capital of the UK. At weekends there were always umpteen parties. Lots of clubs to choose from as well. BMI baby run cheap flight from Glasgow to Cardiff, just had a look now. If you book flights now for early Jan the flights are coming out at 10 to 15 GBP each way.

Newcastle, is supposed to be really good for hen/stag nights, also it's not in the UK but is close enough, if you have the cash to spare Dublin is another good one.

LOL i just noticed you said no to Newcastle...sorry

What is there in Barnsley???

How about Manchester? It's not a bad night out there... think Your Bash also do nights there. The dogs isn't bad there and although you stand outside to watch the races if you want to be next to the track you can actually sit inside as well... I've not been in a few years but my sister is a big fan of it. If we'd not done the comedy night we'd have done the dogs... or there's the Frog and Bucket comedy club in Manchester as well which I'm assured is another good night. Plus it's not too difficult to get to from Glasgow?
