Dear Parishioners,
I'm planning a little trip in December with some like minded devote Christians like myself. I'm leaving from Berlin on Friday afternoon and then the plan is one night in Poland, one in Czech and then back to Germany for the last night.
Has anyone got any recommendations for small towns/hotels/places to visit in Poland and Czech? We're looking for a good meal washed down by the local ale and to mix a bit with the locals. We want to avoid the main towns/tourist places like Prague. I also don't want to drive so far. So far I have the towns Zary (Poland) and Leberec (Czech) but I'm open to suggestions. I know a lot of German towns so that part of the trip is sorted.
God bless

Breslau (Wroclav in Polish ) is highly recommended in South Poland , and is not far from the Czech border .
During winter, it can be nice to visit Karpacz and Szklarska Poreba, which are two towns close to each other in one of the mountain regions (Südeten) of Poland . Schneekopf is the biggest mountain in the area and forms the border with Czech

I lived in Wroclaw for a year and really loved it. I would definitely recommend it. Lubin (not Lublin) is a nice small town not too far from there. I would also say that even though you are avoiding the big towns you'll want to spend a couple of days in Krakow.

Thanks. Wroclaw looks a good choice. Google reckons 4 hours from Berlin is that realistic? What's it like getting over the border? Bearing in mind I'd prefer to be drinking polish lemon vodka than stuck in some jam on Friday afternoon.

as of Jan there will be no border...you can just pass through...Krakow and Wroclaw are gred. Lower Silesia is where I'm form and it is truly great... Warsaw has some great nightlife but so do other cities.
Wroclaw is where I'm planning to buy my next real estate investment. It is a truly a city of the future. Lots of US and Western investment. City is getting ready for Expo 2012 so lots of investment, building etc...

That's why I really like reading TT this forum is so informative. I checked out this link
http://www.virtourist.com/europe/krumlov/ for info about Cesky Kumlov and the pics are absolutely beautiful and I also found out this city is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thanks for posting this info. I know where I'm going for my next short trip.

I first went to Cesky Krumlov in 1999 for Christmas and have been back about 5 times. One of my favorite places in Europe.

Cesky Krumlov looks a cool place to visit. Trouble is it's a long treck from Poland (over 6 hours). And as I'm staying only one night it's probably not worth going all that way.

According to the photo website,

According to the Krakow airport
List of Flights Schedule they don't seem to be flying direct to Berlin. If anyone has any tips about how to get there - I would love to hear them also. Definitely on my wishlist of places to go.

Good news - I found some alternatives on
www.opodo.de that all go Berlin/Krakow. LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian. Bad news - can't find anything better then €210 return!

that's ridiculous. why not try
mitfahrgelegenheit and carpool. probably cost you around 30 euros and you'll get to see the countryside

Hi,
We are planning to go to Czech Republic and would like to visit Cesky Krumlov too, as it seems very nice!
We checked out train routes on internet, and it seems that it is a pain reaching there with the train.
I wanted to ask if somebody has used their bus service to reach there from Prague or Pilzen? It seems that the bus takes only 3.5 hours from Prague.
Does anybody have an idea about the frequency of the bus service or the cost of ticket?
What would be the best way to reach there?
Thanks!

I did a rafting trip last year starting in Vissy Brod (near the Austrian Border) and ending in Cezcky B... (where they brew the Budwar!) and then took the hourly bus that runs back to my car. Was about 2 Euro for an hour ride. Not sure of the bus scheduals or where to get info, but my friends in Prague use them lots. We rafted thru Czesky Krumlov on the saturday.
Because we got rained on, some of our group left us on sunday morning (from Czesky Krumlov) on one of the trains from Prague, I understood it (from my Prague friends) that the trains go quiet regularily.
