Immersive German language training

Experiences with these types of classes

I've been taking Berlitz one on one classes but want to really accelerate my learning. I've heard about week long intense immersion classes where you can become 'conversational' by the end of the week. Has anyone had success (or failure ) with these types of classes? Thanks

I would look for a local conversation group or partner. Many people are willing to trade their German for your English, free of charge. My German teacher recommended listening to Lilipuz, which is a German children's radio show. I've found it to be really helpful with my listening comprehension.

I'll be starting 2 weeks SuperIntensive (love marketing) with G.I. in the middle of Okt. No pain, no gain. Will tell you afterwards, my German is weak, weak, weak.

Forget the immersion classes, find a German Gilrfriend that doesn't speak English. Spend as much time with her as you can, stay at her place instead of yours. You can't get any more immersed than that. and it's more fun too!

Don't know how long you'll be in Germany, but I've been taking a beginner class at VHS Stuttgart and it's very helpful - total immersion, meets two times a week in the evening for an hour & a half, and it only cost 129€. It runs for a semester, in this case September - February. Considering the price, it's been a real value for me. They have more intensive classes too, I think, during the day, and they also offer more advanced courses for non-beginners.

Good luck!

You want an ultra-intensive course? I've heard great things about this place.

first day over, now doing homework on top of that - great way to make things stick. But I think I might kill a teacher after 10 days - we are not 4 year olds.
