I'm going to have to give this one a miss. The back seems to be recovering but I've found out I've got to go away on what passes for business next week, which impinges on the Sunday as well. Damn.
VDB
in principle i'm still up for some decent self-imposed torturing after the last couple of weeks. Weather forecast is pretty bad though.
canuck

billybob
@canuck
l'm still up for it - unless the forecast looks really terrible on saturday -
l've also got a car so l would be able to give 3 or 4 people a lift down (depending how big rucksacks are)
l live near the Nordbad in Schwabing if that helps for a possible meet up point on sunday - or could meet at the hauptbahnhof?
Kat
I'll ask people tonight if anyone wants to do the shorter cable car up and down route with me and get timing advice from Canuck. If I have any company for that, I'm in.
Johnny_who?
@ canuck

can't make it on Sunday

I hope the weather is not gonna be too bad...

Have fun!
steveNZ
I'm reasonably keen, just need to check the weather again tomorrow! Don't really want to go if it's pouring with rain. Also my motivation went down a bit once canuck mentioned the 6.31am train. On a Sunday...

billybob SMS or ring me if you are going and are driving, I'm just round the road so a lift would be great.

Canuck I'll speak to you Saturday.
VDB
@canuck - 6.31am??? that would be suicide, can't we go a couple of hours later

and text me about the details, have no internet acess at home so can't check here.
Showem
It might be suicide to start later. You really do not want to get caught on the top of a mountain when darkness falls.
canuck
The hike is a go and we'lll be leaving around 7am tomorrow morning. It'll be cold (maybe 2C on top) so bring some warm clothes, hat, gloves etc. See you on top!!! Hope it doesn't rain (snow is OK) ...too much.
Blimeygirl
So where are we meeting and when?

Are we getting the 6:31 train or the 7:30?
steveNZ
canuck, is the plan to do the whole hike up, or take the cable car up and down and walk the rest?
This'll be my last contact with the 'net before tomorrow so will call you later.
Billybob if you're reading this, then I'll call you as well to see if you're driving, in which case please save me a seat!!

Cheers kids,
S

After 1900 vertical meters and 7hrs of hiking...We conquered the mountain!!! (and even had some beers along the way!)

Good job guys...Hopefully you're not 'too' sore today. biggrin.gif All 6 of us made it to the very top!! Congrats especially to Tartan, he really lived up to his name! Thanks Billybob for driving and everybody for coming out. I still can't believe the weather was that good and it was that hot up there...we had lots of good luck. I even managed to write 'Happy Birthday Belinda!!' in the log book at the top. tongue.gif Pictures I'm sure will come soon...
VDB
Great hike, and awesome that we made it the whole way to the top with such good weather. Can't wait to for the winter and go down those slopes in the snow.

i feel actually really ok at the moment, my condition must be less worse then i previously thought ph34r.gif .
steveNZ
yeah I'm not too bad although normally it takes a couple of days for my legs to worry about the build-up of lactic acid...
Have got the pics, will get them up tomorrow
S
billybob
legs not too bad today which is suprising - top day out so cheers guys

p.s. tip for everyone: don't ever go hiking with canuck.
He's eats mountains like the alpspitze for breakfast and is then still hungry tongue.gif
bee_sting
I'm so honored! I got your sms while drinking a beer at Andechs. I must say that you all made me feel thoroughly lazy. But the sentiments were appreciated! Well done!
Tom17
I'm also not hurting as bad as expected. Quite thankful for that.

What a fantastic climb that was though, hard work and great weather. The "not for beginners" thing is not to be taken lightly at all... oops smile.gif

Will put up pics tonight probably...
Tom17
Pics!
tench
Great pics! Shame to have missed it...

@BillyBob: Ski poles are for skiing mate! Just please please tell me you don't rollerblade with them too! wink.gif
billybob
@Tom
good pics but please take out all the ones with me looking completely knackered on them!

@Tench
need those poles mate, especially for descents - make life easier. Does look a bit wussy though, it's true.
canuck
Good pics Tom!! They turned out better than I thought...nice!

Nice little entry in the book BTW... tongue.gif

@billybob: You mean all of them then..??
electrobuzz
cool pictures...
should try to do this climbwhen i come back to munich next year...
guess TT will organize it then...
Tom17
I imagine this will be done again for sure...

Kinda tempted doing the other ones that Canuck was talking about.. the one with more climbing and the zugspitze one... Looking forward to them!

@canuck, how were you expecting them to turn out then? smile.gif
Showem
Nice pics! But I thought you said that it was good weather. Looked pretty friggin cold and misty to me.
canuck
The forecast before the hike, was 9C (in Garmisch) and rain the entire day...I'll take 10C (at 2000m) with (mostly) no rain and a bit of mist and sunshine. That's what I call good weather under the circumstances.

@Tom: I thought the pics would all be darker (less contrast)...but most turned out really good.
billybob
well, better late than never - l've pulled my finger out and so here's a few of my piccies from the hike last sunday - let m know if the link doesn't work

saw the mountains yesterday - there was snow above about 1400m - can't wait for boarding to start...
