´We are now in the market for a new piano, but have no idea where to shop. Our daughters teacher recommended a shop in Regensburg, but that is a bit far to be honest. Can anyone recommend a shop in or around Munich. We have a budget of up 7 - 8000 euros. Thanks.

It's obviously a musical morning.

During our Great Piano Hunt (still not over) we visited Piano Fischer near Isartor http://www.piano-fischer.de/ they are probably the biggest one in Munich and were very friendly.

There is also Hirsch at Sendlinger Tor, not quite as big: http://www.klavierhirsch.de/

We also went to somewhere near Landshut, I'll try to post the name later if I can remember it. There are some smaller workshops if you are interested in a particular brand e.g. Steingraeber, August Förster, but it sounds like for what you are looking for Fischer would be the best place to start (they have some second hand instruments as well as new).

I think I read that Steinway has some special offers at the moment. Their Munich shop is in "Landsberger Str" if I remember correctly.

Website here: http://www.steinway-muenchen.de/

They also sell Schimmel, Boston and Essex. I'd forgotten about them because when we went out there we only played the Steinways.

I bought my piano from these guys a few years ago.
you can negotiate a price with them if you pay cash (or you could back then) I got a free stool and free first tuning.

I am glad to see age hasn't affected the brain Sarabyrd (whatever about the spelling!) ... wink.gif

I posted our experience here that we had with Piano Hirsch (but can't locate the thread!). Briefly, they delivered a new piano and damaged it during the delivery. The deliverymen first tried to cover up and then admitted their mistake. My wife didn't accept delivery (we had paid a hefty deposit) and then Piano Hirsch was very unhelpful in the whole affair. We ended up having to go to a lawyer to get our money back... For that price you cannot just take any piano. You have to play it as no 2 sound alike even from the same manufacturer.

We currently are renting a very ice piano from Piano Vogel (somewhere outside Munich). The deal there was we would rent until he came up with a suitable option to buy (around months was the promise). That was 5 months ago and he hasn't come up with a single piano to buy. Not so bad as if we do buy from him as the rental amount (60€/month) will be deducted from the price, but we are not satisfied with him either as he hasn't delivered as promised. We however need a piano so continue to rent.

We will probably go to Piano Fies again as he is close to us. Very small range but the guy knows his stuff.

Thats just our experience...

Some more links from the fount of all piano knowledge (the poster known as Markus, who said it's fine to PM him if you need more info on these places):

http://www.piano-schweisser.de/ near Landshut, has a good selection of uprights
http://www.piano-hall.de/ small workshop and piano dealer near Nymphenburg
http://www.piano-schwaegerl.de/ near Harras

Most dealers will give you a free first tuning when you buy a piano.

Mootboot, please tell me that you didn't buy that bright red piano on the link you posted ohmy.gif
