Hi everybody,

There's a sizable group of us going to Oktoberfest this year. We arrive Thursday 2nd and are staying through to the Monday.

We've tried booking table vouchers ourselves, but have found it impossible.

Does anyone know how we can buy some? Either though a mediator, travel agency, or just if you have any to sell.

Let me know if you can help

Dan

If you are free agents and can go in the afternoons, i.e. before 3pm, do so. When in the tent cast around for a non-reserved table and stay put. Use the toilets inside the tent as you have no right of re-access once you leave. If you are sitting at a non-reserved table you do not need vouchers, you just order and pay as you go.
Danmal
Thanks for your reply.

I hope you don't mind if I clarify:

So what you are saying is that in the tents there are unreserved tables which you can loiter by until they are free, and then grab them when the occupants stagger off somewhere. Can you then stay at these tables for as long as you want?
sarabyrd
Until chucking up out time.
Your best bet is to find a couple of half-full tables, ask politely if you can join and slowly take them over as others leave. The tables in the beergardens are never reserved and are a great option if the weather is good. Less tabacco smoke, more roasted chicken/fried fish/sugar-coated almonds smell - the aromatic embodiment of the Wiesn!

Thanks again!

the main problem is even when you find a table with a few seats free, youll find that a group of mates have left the most beligerant arsehole amongst them there to guard the seats. its usually a girl (its so much harder to tell a girl to get the fuck out of the way). ive seen an entire table being defended for close to 2 hours before the occupants who were "in the toilets" came back with teddy bears, candy floss and glasses from another tent.

best bet is just to go really early on a week day. pick a tent and stick with it.
MonksTown
I agree with Berny, really annoying when people do that. mad.gif
But it is really hard to argue with them.

A good tactic is if there are say four of you, be ready to accept to get two places and then as people mingle you will get more space.
berny
you always agree with me.

or is that keydeck?

who are you people?
MonksTown
Don't count ya chickens berny, you talk a load of auld bollix sometimes as well though you are right on this case.
And there's often a bit of a nasty undertone to the "Besetzt" as well as if you have no riht to be there and they are from fucking Erding or something. mad.gif

My tactic for getting onto those tables is to just sit down and tell the people there that I'll move when their friends arrive. Often works for me, but then I can look quite intimidating if I want to. I'll get up and go if these friends actually do show up - but mostly they don't.
Hutcho
Anyway, all these tourists coming over looking for reservations, it's just completely unnecessary. In fact, if it was up to me, I'd ban any tourist from having a reservation, and only allow Munich and surrounding area residents from getting them because they are frankly the only ones that need them.

If you're a tourist, you don't have any constraints. In the week, you will simply have no trouble going from tent to tent and getting a table. It'll be harder on the weekend, but again, you're in the perfect position to get there before the general populace gets off work.

As I said, don't hog the reservations that you don't need and leave them to people that do.
icculus
Hutcho, ... that's a bit harsh. Just as FYI ... I'm not a tourist. I live in Munich and enjoy going to the wiessn with friends every year. Some Bavarians, some other expats that live here, and some visitors. Haven't made a reservation myself before, and haven't needed one, but this year I have some good friends paying a lot of dollars to fly over from home and stay with me. I plan on showing them around Bayern while they are here, as they've never been to Germany before. It's nice when your hosting a big group to know that you can show them around the city or take a day trip, and still have a place to sit together inside a fun tent in the evening for Oktoberfest.

Your assumption that all tourists are coming here with the sole purpose of getting to the 'wiessn early to get a table and drinking until they forget their names is not "always" correct (although I will admit is also common).

Looking for 3 seats in any of the major tents in the evening during the first week. Willing to offer 75 euro each or make me an offer.

Thanks
Hutcho
Unbelievable.. honestly, have you read this thread or any others about reservations? You will be able to get three seats in the week no problems whatsoever in any tent you like.

The seats are free. The only costs you will have are for 2 beers and 1/2 chicken, and don't let anyone charge you more than the official prices.

@ Hutcho: nxn etc. visited this thread on my recommendation as he only needs three seats, not ten. There are various times when people need reservations in various tents to economize with drinking time and not waste precious half-hours casting around for seats. As he hasn't stated which time and day he's looking at, let him shop around. It's a free country and he knows his choices.

I know a few people that have tickets avail short notice- as people cancel out, so watch TT and there maybe some tables that open up or tickets that open up on short notice.
I also know of a buddy that works at a nice hotel, and they get blocks of tickets for the guests staying with them, and often he has these tickets available to the open public, but usually closer to the Fest time.

Not sure what you mean by "tickets". You don't need tickets to get into Oktoberfest, or any of the beer tents for that matter. It's all free of charge for entry. Of course, you have to pay to go on the festival rides (roller coasters and whatnot) but just being there doesn't cost a thing. I've heard of more than one scam where people were selling Oktoberfest "tickets", but it is just that - a scam.

What you might want (or mean) is that you would like a table reservation. If that is the case, good luck, as reservations are few and far between. Read here for general O'Fest information and you can try here for reservations, though I think that'll be a tough one.

yes , I meant a table reservation. Perhaps someone who reads this may have a reservation that they can't use and want to sell. I have to live in hope.

if you konw someone who has a table for 11 available on Saturday 27th evening, let me know.

Today's Abendzeitung headliner is an article on the supply and demand situation for Oktoberfest seats that has led to astronomical prices being quoted – and paid. One (you read correctly, one!) seat at the Hippodrom on opening Saturday will set you back €379 (including two Maß and ½ chicken) if you buy your “tickets (there is no such thing!) from ticketpool.de.

Thing is, the transaction is illegal according to the tents’ Terms & Conditions. You are not allowed to sell your reservation or pass it on for free, confirms the tent managers’ legal representative Richard Seifert. If you are caught doing this you are put on the tent managers’ Black List and barred from future reservations. If you buy such reservations you may be turned back at the entrance as the reservation is not in your name.

QUOTE

Ticketpool.de’s owner, Holger Miebach, denies the allegation of wrong-doing, stating that the Federal Supreme Court has not yet decided on the legality of forbidding the resale of reservations. Seifert, on the other hand, quotes the managers’ “Hausrecht, let’s call it right to refuse entry, and relies on the Court to decide in their favor.

QUOTE

Worldticketshop.de claims to be operating legally as well as they are cooperating with the suppliers, i.e. the tent managers. Everyone operates with the tent managers, it’s when you start operating with someone else that you may run into trouble.

QUOTE

Again, word to the wise – hands off overpriced tickets from professional sites or eBay autions!

(And, again, my company has an agreement with the tent managers, it has been authorized to acquire reservations on request and pass them on at the original price for a modest fee)

This is a public service announcement, I am not barefacedly advertising my business with a holier-than-thou attitude.

No worries, most people will assume you are advertising your business in the normal manner.

Hi all,

I know a group of 23 people who intend going to Oktoberfest for a stag do. 3 of them are looking for tickets for the Oktoberfest tents. Does anybody know how or where I might be able to get some?

I'm just asking as a favour for some-one I know. They said they can't seem to get their hands on any. Let me know please if anybody has tickets they're willing to sell. Cheers! :-)
Owain Glyndwr
3 people on their own won't need "tickets". Tickets is a bit of a misnomer, anyway. What is sold are actually vouchers for food and drink (1 half chicken and two litres of beer) that are compulsory to buy when you make a reservation. 3 people won't need a reservation if they get there early enough before the tents fill up and grab one of the non-reserved tables. Besides which, you can only make reservations for whole tables which I believe is for 12 people so you'd have to buy vouchers for 12 chickens and 24 litres of beer to get one. And then if you only came with three people, the waitress would seat random strangers at your table (without reservations) to fill it up and sell more.

Thank you very much Owain Glyndwr. You're a star! biggrin.gif

Depending on what day, I may have a few seats at my table available
planetmoni
with the vouchers you also get a 'ticket' for access to the tent in case tents are closed (full).
Owain Glyndwr
I've only ever received a confirmation of the reservation, which we've had to photocopy to give out to people. I've never been given a "ticket" for access. That said, I've never actually reserved myself, just been part of a group with a reservation.
planetmoni
I have. Ticket for each person of a group 10. I know of 2 other tents who give out door tickets.
Hazza
It was wristbands last year at the Augustiner. They allowed re-entry into the tent too, which was nice.
Katrina
Fischer Vroni and Hacker both give out entry passes, FV is a ticket, Hacker is an armband like Augustiner. Think Schottenhamel does too and these four allow re-entry. Depends on the individual tent as to policy.

This does however mean that if you sound German enough and are suitably dressed (i.e. in Tracht and looking like fun), if you pick a tent without armbands you can listen out for people joining tables and quote the table name to gain entry.
But it's not a move that always works.

Just mostly.
Especially on large company days (Deutsche Post I love you and have done so for years).

I am looking for 2 seats for the first weekend. I understand you can get into the tents. I am trying to sit with some locals to get a better feel for the culture.
