So here it is, my fall bell is ringing and i start craving roasted chestnuts. I haven't spotted yet a park with chestnut trees, and i am hoping someone has that kind of info.
Also, even though i am well aware of how secret this info may be, i would loooove to go with my sons one morning and pick up some mushrooms.
Would someone agree to share his/her knowledge of good places ? Mmmm...i can pay with hazelnut cakes, zum beispiel, or make your flu vaccines, or almost whatever.
Thanks a lot !

All the chestnut trees around Munich are horse chestnuts. Ie- inedible. You'll have to buy edible chestnuts. I've not seen them very often in the shell except closer to Christmas, but maybe at Viktualienmarkt. Otherwise, Sendlinger Tor and in the pedestrian zone there is usually someone selling roast chestnuts.

Mushrooms grow bloody everywhere, wild hazelnuts and apples are in season, wild hops about here and there, and probably other stuff. Get the U6 to Garching Hockbruck. After the Allianz arena at Frottmanning, you'll notice loads of fields and woodland on your left as you come into Hockbruck. Go there. Loads of stuff. Very few people about, so if you fancy ignoring silly stuff like laws, you could bring a rifle, and bag shitloads of rabbits, hares, pheasant and even deer if you're lucky.

If you see a grumpy looking bloke with a German Shepherd, avoid him. He does not like company.

Or you could just shoot him too... tongue.gif

I see people all the time in the fall collecting the chestnuts. If they are not edible what do these people do with bags of them? Just curious.

play conkers with them or feed them to deer.
