Traffic jams due to the Oktoberfest

Advice on when they might occur and how to avoid

zard
We would like to do a family daytrip to the mountains tomorrow, leaving town in the morning and coming back early evening, but I'm a bit concerned about running into traffic jams. Will the roads be crowded all day, or are there peak times? Should we avoid the A8 due to Italians coming in? Is the A95 likely to be full as well?

Thanks for any thoughts!

From Munich itself heading south should be OK I guess.

Right, but then we have to get back home in the evening? Or is everyone already there?
MonksTown
Nah, no one but a nutter would drive their car into Munich of a Saturday evening to try and go to the Wies'n.

Look at your map and find a route that doesn't use the Autobahn. It really doesn't take that much longer to places like Tegernsee.

Usually trafiic isn't too bad just because of the Wiesn and the Ities start rolling in next Thursday...

But one of the northern bundesland start their school holidays today. Might be a bit from that.

Aren't they all going back to school now?
