At the traditional tour of the Wies'n yesterday Lord Mayor Ude shocked many by having a bit of rant at critics of the Wies'n, including those within his own party.

I'll give him his due that we DON'T necessarily want outside breweries at the fest as people keep calling for.
But at the same time, some of the critic is to an extent justified:
The Prices,
The need for more tents
So many reserved places

etc etc.

He had a real dig at the press for always reporting the "bad" things about the Wies'n rather than selling it as a success story.

I'spose once the Wies'n is about to start he expects every one just to get on and enjoy it and leave criticque to the other four seasons in Munich.

Who? Who is "calling for" non-Munich breweries? I mean besides the non-Munich breweries and their bullshit astroturfing?

The need for more tents
Where would you put them?

woof.
MonksTown
Put more tents on the third of the Wies'n that isn't used for the fest but is reserved for the agricultural show.

The BIG international breweries want to get in there if they could.
The thin end of the wedge would be letting in breweries like Ayinger etc and this is touted in the press at least once or twice a year.

That would be awesome… could you imagine a the “Anheuser Busch NASCAR tent I’m sure the locals would love that

I don't care about more tents and I don't think non-munich brews should be there, but the prices could use some attention. Its definitely on the expensive side and I'll wait for my work's outing to go (so they pay ).

Luitpold von Bayern, owner of the Kaltenberg brewery, has been lobbying for a tent for years. After all, it was his great-great-great-great-great uncle's wedding that founded the tradition of the Oktoberfest.

Where are you going to put them??

Had a look at the ownership of the Munich breweries lately?

"The BIG international breweries" are already here.
Small Town Boy
Exactly. And there's no way they're going to let the small boys in, regardless of how much better their beer may be.
MonksTown
Sure many of the Munich breweries are foreign owned.
But they brew IN Munich and pay tax in Munich, innit.
Small Town Boy
Beck's will soon be brewed in Munich. Will there therefore soon be a Beck's Brauerei tent at Oktoberfest?
MonksTown
Oh, you are playing the evil cards today STB!

I thought the Munich produced Becks was export only and that Becks as sold in Munich
( a cheeky litle Becks Gold is ideal for a carry out between pub and club ) would
continue to be supplied from Bremen?

I don't think these's a role for Becks at the Wies'n, no.
Breweries that brew in Munich and pay tax here should get the Wies'n concessions and I think they'll decide what beers to sell.
Small Town Boy
Yeah, I wasn't actually suggesting Becks would be sold at O'fest; just pulling your leg!

I'm not sure what the precise arrangements are, but it seems a bit pointless trucking the beer all the way down from Bremen when it's also being brewed down the road. Especially as no-one who drinks that stuff would be able to tell the difference anyway.
MonksTown
it might make no sense from the most basic point of view but there are other logistical reasons they might do it.

I admit, Becks is more of a one-for-the-road neck it down kind of beer.
Popular with Preis'n who don't have a clue innit.

I think Tegernseer Helles should have a tent in there. Just get rid of the Spaten tent.
