Anyone here taking Yasmin pill?
Whats the price in Germany?
Where should I get it?
I was prescribed this birth-control pill back in Mexico... is my prescription valid in Germany?
Any suggestions on what to do or where to get it will be more than welcome.
Thanks guys!!!

I don't think your prescription will be valid in Germany.
I am not sure if they are all the same but I pay about 35€ for 6 months supply of mine (Microgynon).
You need to go first to your GP (Hausarzt) who will transfer you to a Gynecologist (Frauenarzt). Take a copy of the piece of paper that comes with the box with ingredients on (this is called Beipackszettel in German and I cannot think of English translation). The Doc will then check if the pill has same name and ingredients in the German market. It might just have a different name.
The GP will give you a prescription for 1 month maybe if you can't get to Gynecologist in time but in the future you'll need to go there every six months for a check up and to get prescription.

OH and for a Gynecologist I'd recommend this practice on
Schillerstr. if you are in Frankfurt. I have always been happy with everyone I saw there.
If this is too far away I am sure GP could recommend somewhere.

You can get it here, I take that, but the pharmacist won't take an out of country prescription.

Thanks!
And what about those online pharmacy sites where you dont need any prescription? Anyone tried these before?

every 6mo? not once a year!?!?!?
ugh another reason on my list of why i'm leery to move back there (once a year to the gyn. is more than enough for me!)
never tried it, but not sure about it.
Some of them aren't real. I know for some pet meds they make stuff up and sell it in what appears to be original packing, but none of it is. If something were to happen I know some companies will only honor it or help pay for things (doctor or whatever you need if something goes wrong) if you get it from a credible retailer so i'd make sure they have something backing them and you don't take any site from a web search.

I don't know about those to be honest. It seems like a bit of a risk with delivery times if you need them straight away.

Yes every 6 months! You only get the 6 month prescription if you have a check up. Otherwise they only give you 3 months supply. I don't really mind it - just think it is not as bad as the dentist (well for me anyway!)

Thanks guys

What do you need another method for? If you have been taking the contraceptive pill and having no problems with it then why mess your body up? It is actually better to go to the Gynecologist ok might be unpleasant but surely better than discovering you might have cervical cancer when it is too late? I have never understood why women don't go at all!
This is a good link for looking for a
Hausarzt in Kassel and I wouldn't worry am pretty certain that no Doctor can get through a degree in medicine nowadays without being able to speak English. Good luck

There's plenty of advice on the "girlies'" forum.

I guess, this question has been answered more or less by now, but I figured I'd add a little:
I take Yasmin pill here and as far as I know it is the same as in the States (so maybe Mexico too) except instead of taking placebo pills for a week, on the German Yasmin you just don't take any pill for a week.
My ob/gyn also only requires one check-up per year to get your prescription, not one every 6 months, though that is what she recommends a check-up every 6 months and that is what I try to do (doesn't always work though as my ob/gyn is in Munich)... I have also once received a prescription from my Hausarzt (to save myself the time of seeing my ob/gyn just for the prescription), but I doubt that a doctor would do that if you are a new patient.
Where to get it... there are online pharmacies and well the three-dimensional kind you encounter in any city. Online is probably going to be a bit cheaper though not much with prescription medicine, and it will be quicker to get it at a pharmacy, where prices should be about the same everywhere. I would never get any drugs off some random internet site that requires no prescription, you do not know for sure if you are really getting what you want, and you could potentially be harming your body.
If you get a prescription, make sure to get the one for 6 months, as that works out to be quite a bit cheaper per month than the 3 month prescription. I think I paid about €60 for my last 6 month prescription.

My doctor is once a year only. The prescription is for 3 months usually and every doctor that I have been to in Germany allows you to call them up and ask them for a refill on the prescription and they will pop it in the mail to you so you don't have to make another trip to the doctor (of course, they charge for the 'phone consultation').
You don't need to go every 6 months.

My Ob-Gyn will also allow me to phone-in a prescription request, but I go for the 6-month check anyway. Is covered by my insurer, has the same cycle as my dental check (every June near my birthday, every December near Christmas, that way I remember), it is quick, painless and not embarassing at all.
Coming from a country where cervical smears are only once every 3-5 years, I'm pleased about the German system: Achten Sie auf Ihre Wertsachen!

It's very cheap to get the birth control pill here as compared to america although I don't know about mexican birth control prices. Just get yourself down to a frauenarzt and get a quick check up it won't do you any harm. Everybody that is that educated in Germany can speak a bit of English and in any case the german word for the pill is pille so you can't go to wrong. Yasmine if I understand is actually the regular german brand so you definitely won't have any compatibility problems.
Yes I'm a guy and I know way to much about this

Yeah, when I lived in the States I would have had to pay $45 per
month for Yasmin, so I ended up going on a different bc pill (which was fine too) which cost me $45 for three months. And this was at the university health center and as far as I know prices there are lower for students than normally. At least Yasmin is a lot cheaper in Germany, and there are even cheaper ones.

I am German but lived in the Uk for the last 71/2 years and didn't take the pill before I moved there. I am now back in Germany and didn't know what to do to get a new prescription either. So i made an appointment with the Gyn (was really lucky to get one straight away more or less) and got the same pill as i took in the UK, which was Yasmin. I was really shocked to discover though that it wasn't free of charge and that I had to pay 35Euros for three months worth...! I'm definitely going to try and get six months or a whole years worth next time if possible. Or get a cheaper pill like Microgynon. Any other cheaper pills than Yasmin?
Mariposa
Sep 26 2007, 5:57 pm
Sarah, you can ask your gyn about that. Obviously not only the price can be considered here as different pills are differently dosed and you gyn can help you pick one, but yeah, there are some that are a bit cheaper.
6 months worth is as much as you can get though, as there are no bigger boxes, thus getting 12 months worth would only mean getting 2x6.
The pill is only free of charge, i.e. not a private prescription but a Kassenrezept if it has to be taken for other reasons than birth control (for hormone treatment), or if the woman taking it is 20 years old or younger.

I take Microgynon and it costs me about 40€ for 6 months supply. I think 3 months is only 35€ as well so I imagine 6 months of Yasmin would be the same. 6 months is definitely lots cheaper. Switching probably really only save you a few € and the question is if it is worth taking the risk when you the one you take agrees with you. You might find you have problems or side effects if you change.

Muffin, 6 months of Yasmin is about €60, so €40 is quite a bit cheaper. But I do agree with you that it might not be worth it. I did switch for that reason in 2004 but only for a few months as I had to switch again to a different one in the States (as Yasmin was just way too expensive for me there), and then when I came back I went back on Yasmin.

Does anyone know how much a trip to the doctors would cost if insurance isn't covering it and also how much Yasmin would be also if the insurance doesnt' cover it?
I have the Hanse Merkur travel insurance right now which doesn't cover "pre existing conditions". The BC supply I have right now is from the states (and actually, since my OBGYN there was out of Yasmin, she gave me Ortho Tricyclin Lo), and now I thnk the pill is reacting strangely with me since I've been exhausted for the past 5 days for no reason. I really would like to get my Yasmin back...so do I have any options with the
health insurance I have? Or should I look into a health insurance that covers more?
Thanks!

a check up at the gyno can cost anywhere between 150-300 depending on the tests and such. If you just go for a new prescription, it shouldn't cost as much. And you insurance might cover it, as a normal cancer check should be covered, just make sure the doc lists it as that.

I do not know if it applies to hormone regulating drugs, but foreign prescriptions are accepted in German pharmacies.
Case in point: A friend of mine in Turkey needed a prescription drug for his father, something he needed to take before undergoing a surgery. They couldn't find it in time there, so he contacted me on the day I was going to fly to Turkey. I went to the pharmacy in my building, explained the situation, they gave me the medicine and said my friend should just fax the prescription.
Of course, the fax thing will not work in all cases, but they went with it since they knew me already and understood that it was a pressing matter. But if you do have an original prescription, chances are they will accept it (depending on the date, of course). Trying won't hurt.

A German friend of mine living in the UK pays about 100€ when she comes to Germany for a regular check up.
I think on the new prescription front though that they will not be willing to give you one without a normal check up. That is the policy at my gyno anyway.
