Anything going on before the official start?

Hi there,

I heard that some tents open up before the weekend and walked around last night but didn't see anything open. However, today at lunch I happened to see a couple of ladies in dirndls near the wiesn. I just wondered if anyone knew if some tent was open this evening?

Cheers

Possibly staff meetings and stuff.
There is NO beer sold to the public at the Wies'n until Lord Mayor Ude opens the first barrel at 1200 on Saturday, gobs in it and makes Stoiber drink it. laugh.gif

night at night, nada.

There's the odd stand maybe selling beer to workers etc but nothing starts until Saturday.

I used to go to the beer garden at the Loewenbraeu tent for a drink/snack in the week or so before Wies'n (set up to serve the workers, though I wasn't one.) Don't they do that anymore?

Though if you're just visiting Munich, there are lots of other places I'd check out in my time before Oktoberfest.

I cycled through on Monday and saw two places selling beers.
There was a Spaten caravan with attached small beer garden near the big statue and the Lowenbrau beer garden (next to the tent) was full of people enjoying beers.

At luch time you can eat in some of the tents, it is quite popular among the people working in the nearby offices. I have been there yesterday having my lunch in the Augustiner tent and you could sit either in the beergarten outside or inside the tent. It is a strange feeling though to sit inside a huge empty tent that you always saw packed with thosands of people.

The beergarden at the Löwenbräu tent is not that bad to go for a beer, it's a good atmosphere there near the end of the day. The beers are 2,20 for a helles...

Everyone could go into the canteens for the workers until last year as the bus companies from out of town started unloading their passengers there for a cheap midday meal and the workers could not get served and started to kick up. The Authorities then declared the Weisn as a " Baustelle " which forbid it to be entered by anyone other than workers.

Well, at least they aren't really imposing that rule, except possibly for people who obviously don't belong at the canteen.

My daughter's first outing was to the Wiesn "Baustelle." She was two days old, and Daddy walked her down there from the clinic.

She didn't get a beer until the actual Fest, though.
