i'm interested in meeting up! unfortunately, i won't be able to make the first one. right now i'm visiting my family in the states and i won't be back in mannheim until sep. 13th. BUT i'm definitely down for sep. 18th if we're settling on every other tuesday.

just to give my input, i think it's a good idea to alternate between the cities. it seems like a fair compromise. :-)

i'm not picky about where we meet but i would prefer if it's not too smokey.

aren't you aware of the smoking ban in Baden-Württemberg that has gone into effect on August 1st?

I was at Café Bernstein (MA) the other night - only smoking in their "beergarten". I was in Cafe Rossi (HD) a week or two back, also non-smoking. Even the corner pub in my neighborhood had a bistro table and an ashtray outside now.

Just an update before I let this thread sit awhile. Cafe Rossi is happy to welcome us. I'll have to book a table one day before we meet! Let's get the ball rolling and let TT Rhein Neckar become a force to be reckoned with !

Great idea! I will be there on September 4th. And every two weeks for starters is perfect.

hey! I'm def up for meeting up but i'm back in UK until 7th sept, but keep me posted and i'll come along when i get back.

i did know about the smoking ban but the details still aren't clear to me - what (if any) exceptions there are and such. but that's great that it's all non-smoking now! anywhere is fine by me, in that case! i'm looking forward to the meetup!

I'm not in Heidelberg anymore, but I thought I'd suggest some places I enjoy going to (all in HD):

- Villa (on Hauptstr.)
- Grey Stones

All are cocktail bars.

You'll find that RedDevil is a git-ess, and she's far from cheeky but a lovely person!
Unfortunately I'm already booked September 4th, and if its every 2 weeks from then on, I'll miss the next three due to vacations. First one I can come to will be 30th October!

Other places I would add in Heidelberg:
- Zollhofgarten
- Der Beach
- Maximos
- Bierheldhof (if we can all get there, need a car)
- Kulturbrauerie (think its called that)
- that cocktail place that sells them via a board that counts down to 10 sold (not sure what its called, its opposite Pizza Hut)
- Zeiglers/Billy Boys

I just thought of one more place - one of my all-time favorites in HD - and they sell the closest thing to real US nachos I have seen in Germany (despite the sprouts they put on top :-)) - and the bartenders aren't bad either:

hey folks. as luck would have it, something has come up and i will not be able to make it on Tuesday. depending how long my appointment (which is at 7) goes, i can show up later, but no guarantees.

Looks like my plans have changed for to-morrow evening, so I'll be able to come along after all with my French colleague who is over at the moment. He's staying at the NH hotel so its only a short walk for him. You'll need to treat him gently as he's recovering from a majpr operation, but he'll enjoy any sympathy!

Organize the next one and make it a Wednesday, basta!
This coming Tuesday, I have an appt. in HD anyhow so I won't be punctual. I could move the reservation to 7.30 p.m. if that suits everyone better, but if no one shows up, tables get unreserved after 20 minutes.

Is everyone game for the next meet-up? Or is another day better?

I will not be able to make it at 7.30. Unfortunately, this month I have something going on from 7-8.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and by the time I'm back in MA, well it'll be 9 o'clock.

no day of the week is particularly better or worse for me. i'm pretty flexible as long as i know ahead of time.

Next one is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 in Heidelberg AND Oct 3 is a holiday in Germany, so no excuses for going home early

Also, I know JodieJo volunteered to organize the next one, but seeing as she is from Mannheim, maybe someone from Heidelberg group, who better knows the bars, could take over this time? Hello everyone.

My wife and I are moving to Heidelberg on 1st October. I'd love to join your get-together on the 2nd if I may, though we might possibly have too much on with the move and everything, in which case it would be the next one!

Let me introduce myself. I'm Owen, I'm English, (very) late twenties. I've been living in Zuerich for the last three years and am looking forward to moving to the lovely Heidelberg, specifically Kirchheim. My wife is German, but from the north-east of the country so she will feel almost as foreign as I will no doubt. We should be around for a couple of years at least so I'm looking forward to meeting some other English speakers, especially those who can tell me the best place to watch the rugby world cup!
