Let's say you're visiting Munich for a few hours before a concert (say, I dunno, the Police in Olympikstadium) and are arriving 4 hours before the concert and have roughly 4 hours after the concert before the next train arrives back home ... Where would you go in a short amount of time to 1) suck up some nice touristy crap, or maybe something offbeat 2) Impress your girlfriend, who's not been there in ages.
Right, ok thanks!

1)
Hofbräuhaus and vicinity?
2)
Hofbräuhaus and vicinity?
Well, at least they have the touristy crap ...

Edit - ok, there's always a nice stroll down
Leopoldstrasse, depending on the weather.

No,
Hofbräuhaus pretty much sums up the touristy crap!

Climb the stairs of
Alter Peter and enjoy the view, then grab a snack at the
Viktualienmarkt - a pickle fresh from the barrel, a pretzel still warm from the oven, Leberkäs or Schweinsbraten from one of the butcher shops, you're set.
P.S. Do the climb even when it's raining, it's worth it.

Going up the Olympiaturm (olympic tower) is quite impressive, and probably even more so if you have a meal there (almost certainly expensive and booking required, though). Then you're already in the vicinity for the concert.
Stroll through the
English Garden is also nice if the weather's good.

Do what sarabyrd says to get some cultcha and some food, then what DDBug says to get what Munich does well and then you're ready to get the U-bahn to the concert. If you arrive by train you're nearly in the centre already, if you arrive by plane then the S-bahn will take you directly to
Marienplatz, and while this isn't the shortest way to Olympiastadion it's the easiest.
