Hi, all,
I would like to learn yoga in South Asia. Does anyone know whether Nepal would be a good place? Please, I will do anything NOT to go to India.

I heard that you may have problems with oxygen intake. How about Vietnam?

Thailand is the place for meditation and yoga. But what's wrong with India?

I haven't really had any praise-worthy experiences with Indians, to put it politely. On the professional level as a tour guide at least, if guiding is considered a career. Sorry to offend. Although, I had a great Indian friend, but he was born and raised in Dubai.

When in Edinburgh with the Ensemble Group, I met a gal who went to India to dance for three months. She picked up some stomach virus and was bedridden for months. After losing all her stomach muscles, she couldn't even lift her leg to fondu height. Never mind ever being able to dance professionally. That was in 2003. Just recently I also spoke to a friend who too got very ill there. Food poisoning. "I was begging to die. You have a fever, headache, stomach pains, plus you're shitting and vomiting, and you are just like, let me die, please spare me this agony..." He was also in Nepal for some time and said it was very interesting, culturally and geographically. I just want a place where I can stay very cheaply for several weeks. Has anyone out there been to Nepal? Of course it's not just for yoga, but it's something I'd really be interested in doing.

I lived in Nepal, in Kathmandu, for two years. Great city, but the air quality has suffered as a result of factories. Still, the whole city is a living museum. Nepalis are also, on the whole, very kind folk.
I am sure there are plenty of teachers there who teach yoga.
Here is one.
Here is another.

I've been to Thailand a few times and met many people taking yoga, meditaion as well as massage courses. Haven't met anyone unhappy with their choice.
