I definately want to watch the Hawks win on Saturday. Where's this bar?

Niederbarnimstraße 24, near U-Bahnhof Samaritenstr. in Friedrichshain.

The place looks pretty dire from the outside, but the owner is great and the atmosphere is good when it gets full.

What's up everyone. I just moved to Berlin last week from Western NY and I was looking for a place to watch some of the playoff games. So I had been looking and found that people used to go to what was called the old emerald isle and now salamana's is supposed to be good? Is anyone planning on getting together this Saturday for the Seattle - Greenbay game on Saturday? It starts at 10:30 PM here right?

I, and presumably others, will be at Salama's.
vincecanada
I may show up for the Colts game on Sun eve.
MarkL
I'm planning on coming by tonight, hope to meet some of you there.

At Salamas, you always get sound. And it is the original American broadcast, not the three English guys in a studio in London that you get on SKY. The only thing missing from the CBS/FOX broadcast is the commercials. So yes, you will hear all of your favourite (and not so much: Troy Aikman) commentators.
MarkL
Will they be showing the entire Jags/Pats game?
Ami in Berlin
He usually stays open all the way through so long as people are there to watch it (so I've been told, I've never actually stayed all the way through the late game). The sign on the door say open till 5:00 am on Sunday night, so that should give an indication.

I was at this place called Dr. Pong last night (drpong.net) and was planning to come to Salama's after, but they had the games on there, too! It was SKYY (?) sports playing on a medium sized projector and worked very well. I would assume it's likely that they have other playoff games on there, too. (The bartender was wearing a packers shirt, so might have been American.)

Just so everyone knows.

I just came to Berlin as an AuPair, I lived near Boston most of my life and am a huge Pats fan. Anyone know where/when to watch the game on Sunday??
ronk
Salama's or Belushi's are the most reliable places. That is, you're pretty much always assured that the game will be on. Although, if you actually want sound, Salama's is your best bet.

I'll be at Salama's for both games tomorrow and I know that there will be at least one other Pats fan. So, it may be a friendly atmosphere smile.gif

If it's not pouring down hard, I may make it across town and show my face after that humiliating defeat last Sunday, but probably to Belushi's. Salama's just adds extra travel time for me, plus the smoke. Sound was up last week at Belushi's on Sunday night.
boston53
Belushi's seems closer so that's where I'll be if anyone else is up for it
Ami in Berlin
Glad to see I didn't miss anything last night on my day off from the NFL playoffs. I hope all the regulars at Salamas didn't take the results too hard.

Shouldn't there be no more smoke, as of January 1?

I don't know whether someone has posted this info yet but I just saw on my EPG that the NFL play-offs are being shown on five between 2am and 4am on the 23rd, not live though.

for those with no satellite, you can record the show using this website:

You're joking, right? In Berlin? I haven't been out much since the new year, but I've seen more places where the smoking ban is being ignored than I have places where it is being followed. Anyone who has been to Salamas will have no doubt as to which side it is on.
vincecanada
Keyword - "shouldn't".

I stayed and watched the game at home, wasn't too much to crow about in the early game. About the only entertaining part was a CBS commercial for Big Brother, where Julie Chen looks into the camera with all seriousness and says "Now THAT's good television!".

That and listening to Phil Simms blather on and stumble for a good 30 seconds to try and find the words for "the ground can't cause a fumble".

Best place for Super Bowl party?

I left down on the 6th, but I was pleasantly surprised that all the restaurants I went to in the last week of December already had non-smoking sections.

Anyone who has been to Salamas will have no doubt as to which side it is on.

Is that a definitive statement about Salamas, or an assumption?
Ami in Berlin
1. restaurants are not bars, and a no-smoking 'section' is anyway not in compliance.

2. it's a definitive statement.

The ones I was referring to were in separate rooms, not the silliness where one table is smoking and the one next to it is non-smoking.
Ami in Berlin
Gotcha.

Anyway, in the two times I've been there since 1 Jan, Salamas is definitely still a smoking establishment. A few people actually went outside to smoke (which is really not that big an ask given that there is even a TV facing out the window, and the sound is still audible) but certainly not all.

So, where's the party on Superbowl Sunday?

I'm bringing chester cheeta's cheeto-s. :-)

Who else, where at? (It's just too bad it's not the Packers and the Patriots... GERR!!!) wacko.gif
Beantowngal
And being a Pats fan, I echo that sentiment. At least GB would have given us a good run.

two days left,
Where is the party on superbowl sunday? .. and where are you all?
jtw
There's been some discussion in the super bowl meetup thread. For my part, I'm planning to go to Belushi's to watch the game in a smoke-free (and non-lawbreaking) environment.
Roman_from_Toronto
Hey folks,

I will see you all at Belushi's then, somewhere between 9 and 10 I guess. Took Monday off and will be driving if anyone needs a ride to Belushi's before (from direction Spandau) or a U or S station or bus stop afterwards (or anywhere between there and Spandau)

Post any changes, just in case.
