All of them were "new people" at some point!
I think that unless otherwise stated, everybody is welcome at every event on the calender. Just listen out for the English voices, or check out the gallery and familiarise yourself with faces.

The ratio's not nearly as bad now though.
But yeah, all are definitely welcome to come join in. Even the oldies.

There'll be a new aupair in the Munich area. She'll be from Texus, USA and arrives in 3 weeks. Perhaps she'll join you guys. i'm sure she'd love to meet people right away!

Hi, I'm kind of new to this board also, been reading here for a couple of months I guess. I've lived in Germany 2 years now, but lived in Europe quite a bit growing up and am fairly comfortable over here. Anyway, I wonder about those of you here as au pairs. What training do you have, and how did you gain employment in another country? How old are you?
I'm not looking to hire anyone, we have an 18 year old though and I could see her doing this someday. She loves living in Europe! We are going back to the US next year, and I'd love to be able to tell her about an opportunity to come back after she has a year or two of college.

I am a 22 year old from Texas now working as an au pair in the Munich area. I didn't want to join the ranks of the "real world" right after I graduated in May of this year with a B.S. degree, so I searched for work opportunities abroad for someone like me - young, no professional experience, desire to see the world. I came upon the au pair thing accidentally while surfing google, and there are many agencies that match up au pair candidates and families seeking au pairs - I used the Almondbury website (
www.aupair-agency.com), but there are many. It is usually free for the au pair to use the services, and I had great support from the agency and lots of families interested in talking with me. I got my degree in child development, and most of my jobs thus far have been service and caretaking-related (student mentoring jobs, campus leadership stuff, camp counselor, etc), so I was drawn to the opportunity. I love it so far, but make sure you actually love working with kids (and all the joys and headaches that come with it) before you commit - if I got here and hated it, I would be in a bit of a bind! I hope this helps...sorry it's so long-winded!
