Which mod changed the title of this thread to:

Football: England vs. South Africa

Jesus wept.

QUOTE (Owain Glyndwr @ Sep 14 2007, 5:45 pm) *
I think one of the mods is having a laugh.

First the football thread title gets changed to rugby then the rugby one to football.

I changed both those titles incorrectly, and deliberately so as to make a point.

Important note: The particular sport in question should be specified in all sport-related topic titles.

If you don't specify the sport then you leave at least half the TT readership guessing which sport is being discussed. The sport in question might be obvious to you, and indeed it might be obvious to other close followers of that particular sport. But you need to have consideration for casual followers too. If the original poster takes just 0.5 seconds to type those extra few letters, they will save the 1,000 daily readers of TT lots of time and puzzlement trying to figure out which sport is being discussed.

Often I genuinely have no idea which sport is being discussed. I have to do a Google News search for a good 30 seconds to figure it out.

Bad topic title: "Who's watching the match tonight? Anyone up for it? Which pub?"
Good topic title: "Rugby: England vs. Scotland, 14.Sep.2007 - Who here is watching it and where?"

Note, there are no hard guidelines for distinguishing between football (soccer) and American football. But please try and keep it in mind to some how make it clear which one you're talking about.

By the way, remember that all moderated titles are publicly logged.

Do we go to bed without dinner now as well?

It's because the titles getted modded to death we don't bother spending any time on them.
perdido
Yeah listen to EB!

So who is watching the match tonight?

Maybe a full Sports name is better as some people think Football is American Football others Soccer/Football yet others it can mean Aussie Rules etc. Similar as Hockey could be Field or Ice Hockey, Rugby can be League, Union, Touch etc and no doubt there are other sports where it could be two different Sports.

And water sports could be polo or solo. Oh the confusion.
Kay
Not to mention synchronised.

Which leads us to the neverending debate, "to plug or not to plug".
MonksTown
If someone posted up a thread about swinging water sports that could be a big splash!

I think it's fair enough what Bob is saying. This week we have had England involved with Cricket (20/20) , Football(Soccer) and Rugby (Union), even I lost track a bit and I'm English.

I guess the counter argument would be that the target audience for those threads would be really into those sports and know implicitly from the date and time what the sport is.
Editor Bob
Remember to specify the sport in your title, otherwise others will make a comedy title out of it.

E.g.: Female naked mud wrestling in Hamburg
