Changes in the size of Levi 501 jeans

Ive been wearing sadly to say 501s for the last 20 years, recebtly the last two pairs one I bought and the ones my wife brought back from the US are not like any I have worn before. they are exceptionally wide in the leg and bum. They still claim to be the original design, but they are nothing like any I have owned. I am coming to the conclusion that I am getting smaller or have they changed the design to accomodate the up an d coming obese nations we are turning into?
