What it's called in German

OK, so I finally have a kitchen and I am going on a baking binge...

I want to make gingerbread but I can't because I need some mixed spice. Does any one know if what us Brits call mixed spice is available in Germany and if so what is it called?

Roz.

Roz,
as far as I know there isn't an equivalent in German. But I found you a recipe on recipecottage.com:

QUOTE
1 teaspoon ground allspice
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 teaspoon grated or ground nutmeg
pinch black pepper

Don may be able to offer a better solution.

Pomeroy and Winterbottom in Munich might stock it, but I haven't been in for ages.

Okay I am about to make a yummy Carrot Cake, and I need mixed spice.

Maybe a stupid question but I havent needed to buy it yet since living here, and now need it, so whats it called here, is it just a direct translation or is it called something completely different. I just dont want to end up buying the completely wrong thing.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

I would recommend "Lebkuchengewürz", it contains the main spices such as ginger, cinnamon, anis etc. It has always worked in spice cake for me.
