Tent: Winzerer Fähndl
Date: Sunday 23rd September (first Sunday)
Time: 8am at the tent, or 7:50 directly outside Theresienwiese U-Bahn
Join: Add your name to the
sign-up sheetI've done this Sunday with a load of people from Toytown for the last 2 years, and have got some friends coming for this weekend this year, so thought I'd organise another one. 2 years ago we were in the Schottenhammel and last year we were in the Hacker (see the thread
Oktoberfest meetup - Hacker tent - first Sunday) so I was thinking about a tent with Augustiner or Paulaner this year.
My two suggestions would be the Winzerer Fähndl or the Armbrustschützenzelt. Armbrustschützenzelt is one of my favourites and is one of the few that will serve Radler for the girls, can be a bit sedate sometimes though and I think we've already had a meet up here once.
I've never been to the Winzerer so don't know what it's like, maybe someone can comment. It's the biggest tent, so might be easier to show up later and get a seat. Also serves Radler. I wouldn't mind giving this one a go. The only one I'm personally against is the Hofbräu, seeing as I'll be there on another few nights for sure later in the week.
I'd suggest we'd have to get down there pretty early. Last year we were there at 7:45, which was probably just a little too early. But only a little, so I would suggest an 8:00 start. Would be good to have as many people as possible there at this time so we can bag enough tables in the initial rush.
Anyway, if you're up for the first full drinking day at the Oktoberfest, sign up!

Crikey! This will be my first proper fest day due to the late arrival of some gringos from London on the Saturday. The thing is that we really want to hit a buzzing tent. What about just hitting up the Schottenhammel tent? The beer's poor but it's got the best atmosphere and even that Spaten shite tastes alright for those 16 days!

Already a bit tied up that day!

It's getting close now, just over a week to go!

You really reckon the Schottenhammel is much better? After having a look into it, I reckon this Winzerer Fähndl should be good, but as I said, I've never been there so maybe I'm completely wrong. I would really like to avoid Spaten altogether if possible, but not totally against the idea.
Bräurosl is definitely out of the question, but if you're a raving homosexual like Monkstown, I'm sure it's the place to be

Hahaha! Someone else told me about that place and I was thinking of bringing my guys there first up. Anyways, the more I read about this Winzerer Fähndl the more I think it could actually be a good call. I've also heard that's where they do the TV coverage of the fest so it could be a good chance to do a filmed stage dive from the gallery or something! Alright, Aussie boy, let's give it a shot.

If they are spurs fans then it's probably right up their alley.

10 000 puffs on the lash in tight leather trousers, it's the pace to be I tell ya!
I think Sunday is a good day to go anyway, once the Saturday rush has died off a bit.

OK, so the Wizerer Fähndl it is then, maybe a mod can amend the title. I have quite a few people lined up for it, and with your lot we should have a good crowd. The more the merrier.

If possible, I'll try to make it. I will be down there with my brother who is coming over from Seattle. I personally would vote for the Augustiner tent, as it is by far the best goll-darn beer in all of Deutschland

I spent two days at that tent last year and had a great time. I'm not much in to the big party tents, but even a little party tent is a big party at the Oktoberfest.
I'm meeting up with Sandgroperin on Friday night and I guess we'll just take things from there. Hopefully do a TT hookup that night and then go to the fest early, early the next morning for the opening.
I'll forward her this thread and see what she thinks. I'll be in Venice with my bro pre-fest so a bit out of touch. We're just kind of showing up and going along with what happens which is fine with me

A new tent for me as well. I could very well be down for this...

Where would be the rally point for this? It may be a bit difficult for people to just go and look around to find the rest.

I think we need a sign up sheet still, so this idea doesn´t completely die. I am considering it, or Gay Sunday or just lying in bed nursing a hangover...

Me and some mofos are going to head out on saturday for a warm up so we should get an idea for the kind of time people should start hitting this place at. I fear that trying to wake my visitors may be like trying to wake the dead so give me a target time. Any early early risers should get down there and lay claim to 3 tables or so, then text someone else who's coming a bit later who then puts the table info on the thread.

Based on previous years, 8am is not an unreasonable time to get there so this is the target time. We can meet at the front of the tent, or at the U-Bahn (
Theresienwiese) at 7:55. Last year, at 7:45, there was basically no one in front of the tent, but it started filling up after 8 pretty quickly and by 8:30 it was packed out front.
I suggest the best thing to do though would be to swap mobile numbers - PM me if you want mine. It would be ok if some people turned up a bit later, but if you do, you're taking a risk of not getting in, or not getting a seat. It's also good to have as many people as possible there so we can hit the tent from a side door too, because often they don't open the front doors first. It really seems to depend on the year, and on the weather as to whether you'll get in after doors opening. I distinctly remember not being able to get a table after the doors opened at all in 2005, however there were still some tables up for grabs at 10am last year. The whole fest seemed really quite empty last year though, on the last day I went from tent to tent all day. This is normally unheard of.
If the mods want to add a sign up sheet, that would be cool. We have quite a few interested already, so looks like it'll be a good day.
I'll be there early as well for the usual scramble for tables!
I've not been to that tent either and it's nice to try new places.

Where exactly is this tent? I was running through the Wiesn on the weekend through the usual tent alley and didn´t see it. Is it on the far left (where I didn´t go)?

The tent can be found here:

The seating plan can be found
here. I reckon we'll try to get tables in front of the stage in in the middle somewhere. Usually these seats are not reserved, but I'm not sure in this tent. Maybe if someone has been there before they can comment.
There is a signup sheet now, so go ahead and sign up if you're keen.
We should probably get this into the TT calendar page so that people can find it when looking for Oktoberfest events.
I don't think it automatically gets entered into the calendar unless it's posted in one of the meetups or events sub-sections (or if a mod adds it to the calendar).

Yeh, it would be good if someone could add it to the calendar... got quite a crowd coming now, would be good to know who is going to be there at 8am with us. If you are, let us know here. It would be great to have the majority there to grab the necessary tables.
Does anyone have any idea how much of this tent is unreserved?
Perhaps someone who has been here before can comment. Hopefully they are the ones near the stage.
Hopefully there's a decent percentage unreserved to make it easier to grab some tables.

I took my name off the list becuase my group of pluses grew a bit too much (14 and counting). I'll come to the same tent though and will try to grab at least two tables. See you all there.

Yes, it would be good to know which tables are reserved or not inside this tent. If anyone has an idea, would be great to know.

In the end had a good day. There was no need to get there so early, there were tables free until about 10:00 or 11:00 and we didn't have to squeeze up until about 13:00 or 14:00.. I thought there was a bit of a lull around this time, and they didn't play any decent music until 16:00, but after that it was really good.. definitely one of the better tents at this time..

It was a great outing at the fest yesterday. After 15 hours, 4 beers and a radler it was one of my best days at the fest in the last three years. Was nice to see some old faces and get to know a few new ones (to me at least).

Yesterday was Wiesn par excellence. Yes we didn't need to get there so early but I thoroughly enjoyed the stampede and we did get great tables. Great group of people too.
The band deserved a kick in the ass though as did whoever decided we couldn't stand on the benches. At that point we left and, afer a bit of frollicking at the fairground, moved on to the Ochsenbraterei - absolutely fantastic atmosphere and top band. The wonderful thing about Saturday and yesterday was that everywhere was just nicely full - the tents were open almost all day yesterday and we were able to enjoy the weather and a bit of tent hopping - all the best the Oktoberfest has to offer without any of the bad bits. Perfect.

In the Oktoberfest meetup album in my gallery you will find some nice pics. Not sure if I can post some small clips though.
