Tips for visiting Salzkammergut in Austria

Hello,

I plan to go to Salzkammergut, Salzburg and wanted to know the best way to reach there once I am in Salzburg. Plan to use mitfahrer to reach Salzburg. But, how do I reach this place. any ideas? also, if I am going there, is there any other place where it might be worth going nearby...And I have heard that its useless if its a cloudy day in Salzburg.
any thoughts would be welcome
