English book stores in Düsseldorf

Tips on where to get English books

Pages: 1 2

I´m new to the area, living in Krefeld but that allows easy access to Düsseldorf. I brought with me a small stockpile of english books, knowing that I wouldn´t necessarily be able to find more of them here with that much ease. I really love used books stores esspecially, and was wondering if there is some english book store hidden away somewhere that somebody knows about? I´ll admit I haven´t really looked much at all, but if anybody happens to know somewhere I should head it would be great.

Stern-Verlag, located in Friedrichstr. 24-26, stocks some English books. Not a big selection certainly, but enough to grab a couple of books worth reading.

For new books only:

The book shop in Shadow Arkaden sells an OK selection of English books.

For a better choice try Mayersche in Essen or Köln. I don't think there is one in Düsseldorf.

And there's always Amazon...

Stern Verlag has the best English language book selection, a a least a thousand
you can also check the science and business book sections and they have a lot of English language stuff

and there is an English language library on Kasernenstrasse in the VHS (4th floor)

they have some good history and pop knowledge books, as well as a huge selection of paperback thillers and videos

Mayersche has a place on Nordstrasse in Düsseldorf, not much better than the train/airport pot-boilers

Cologne used to have an English language bookstore, but it has since closed. It is turning into a cultural back-water

Well, thanks a bunch for all of the recommendations. It seems I´ll more than likely become a regular at the library depending on what they have in stock. I´m pretty flexible... and for anything I really need, it´s true, I can always resort to the internet.

Hallo,

Just wondering if it is still the case that there is no major English language book store around Düs?
Perhaps something might have changes in the past couple of years, hence thought of reposing the same question again...

The issue with online bookstores is that my German bank account (which is the only bank account for the moment that has some decent amount of change ) gives only a EC card with no CCV no. ... Otherwise I also agree that the best way might be amazon, local bookstores or no local book stores.

About the libraries... What kind of libraries are these? Meaning, what kind of titles do they usually stock--more of literature, or economics, or sciences, or___?...
Also, if this particular library buys new titles often (because some libraries can be happy with not-so-current titles as well)...

It would be great if some of us could address one or more of these silly queries that I have...

Cheers!

Mayersche now has a big branch at the corner of Schadowstrasse and Königsallee (ish), outside the Schadow Arkaden

The International Library has LOADS of new books all the time. Fiction and non-fiction. History, popular science, sociology, food, politics .. whatever.

Costs EUR 10 a year and is well worth it.

They also have a whole load of DVDs - including popular TV series in the UK.http://www.google.de/#hl=de&source=hp&q=international+library+d%C3%BCsseldorf&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=&aq=0&oq=international+libra&fp=64ae5300522d1bb2

I always buy my english books from Amazon. The cheapest is to order used books, a lot come from england and you only pay a little shipping (2-3€). And mostly the books are there 2 days after you order.

I know the OP was a couple of years ago so I suppose they have already found the two book shops in Krefeld itself that sells English books.

Not a huge selection but not bad. Both of them on the pedestrian precinct. Buch Habel and Thalia

Plus of course there is Duss airport which has 2 or 3 places that sell English books.

they also sell english language books, for 1-2 euros a piece. not bad at all.

Otherwise there is also an "American/British Foods" store on Corneliusstr., however i find it very expensive. (Books about 6-10 Euros)
