Anyone know if "public liability insurance" in German is Betriebshaftpflichtversicherung? Or what is the difference between that and just Haftpflichtversicherung?
Also, anyone know the difference between Altersvorsorge and Rentenversicherung?

The first one "public liability insurance" sounds right. Second is also liability insurance but usually is called Privathaftpflicht and is private liability insurance. The difference between Altersvorsorge and Rentenversicherung is the former is more like a pension scheme and the latter is an insurance.

"Altersvorsorge" (dict.leo.org translates it as retirement provisions) basically everything you could do to prepare for your retirement (financially). One way would be a "Rentenversicherung" (dict.leo.org translates it as annuity insurance). In germany when people mention the "Rente" they often refer to the obligatory public "Deutsche Rentenversicherung", but of course there are also private insurances that work the same way.

"Haftpflichtversicherung" means liability insurance - no further specifications.
A "Betriebshaftpflicht" would be a liability insurance a business effects to protect its employees.

Thanks for that. Freising, do you know if Betriebshaftpflicht would also protect clients? So basically Altersvorsorge could be anything including Rentenversicherung. Could I also buy private Rente insurance?

Actually Im not so happy about my try to define "Betriebshaftpflicht". By protecting employees I meant: protect them (actually protect the whole business) against claims for damages they caused. In most cases that would be damage done to a client. Sorry for that.

There are other people on this forum that do know a lot more about insurances, than I do. Starshollow would be one of them, I think.

Something to look for could be "Riester-Rente". Thats a state aided private "Rentenversicherung". But I dont know if there wouldnt be better ways to invest your money.
