Hey Guys i am an American living in Rostock ( M.V). I am trying to get a job, working as a teacher or translator. I can speak english and spanish both quite fluent. Although i´ve been in some schools they dont give me a straight answer. Please if you can give me some tipps where to go or ideas you can have in mind.
Thanks a lot.
John.

I know for a fact Berlitz is looking for more English teachers. I am starting work there and they have been asking if any of us know other English speakers.

Hi, just idly browsing through the expat sites when I found - wonder of wonders - other expats in the Rostock area so I have joined you. Question - does Berlitz have any age barrier for teachers?? I am a SENIOR !! living happily in Rostock but I would like a part-time interest and teaching English seems to be an option. Also what qualifications do you need? I meet regularly with two friends, one Aussie and one Texan. We are all readers and have discussed a book club/exchange system. Anyone interested?

Not sure of an age limit...Qualifications are a reasonably well educated person who is native English speaker.
Hi everyone,
My husband and I will be moving to germany next month. I was wondering if he can find a job there. He is 49 and is currently working as a Travel and Business consultant in cairo, Egypt. But business isnt doing well so we desided to go to germany, his home country. It's hard for him to know where to settle as he had been out of germany for about 15 years. We only went to visit his family 2 times this year and we liked Rostock thats y we think its nice to stay there, but im worried cause i dont think he can find a suitable job there. As for me I need some time to learn german before i find a job so im not worried about that for the time being.
Any suggestions on how should he find a job that would pay well in his field of work in Rostock? And if not in Rostock, where in Germany can be a better place to find one?
Your help is highly appreciated.

Germany is a-g-e-i-s-t to the hilt.
He'll have better luck either starting his own business/consultancy (expect a hard 2-3 years of consistent work before seeing solid payoff, which means frugal lifestyle but not waking in cold sweats about paying the bills) or working for a multinational firm that has an internal travel buro.

I'd stick to a large city in the former West if you want the best job prospects. Here in Hamburg, for example, the economy has picked up a lot in the past few years. I have no idea about his line of work though and what his chances are there.

Thank you for your reply. He can work in travel section of a multinational company. If he can find such a job, this can be perfect. We just cannot tell which city is a better place for such a job opportunity.

Rostock is lovely, but have him do some searches on the internet first. I know they need educated people in some fields but the unemployment is at 20% here. I would say do research, and since he is German he may have a chance. Do research and contact companies to see what you come up with. There is a big tourist industry here, well now it just ended but the summer is loaded with tourist staying here and cruise ships in the port.
I have been in Rostock for over 4 months and I really like it.

Not sure what he does in travel but Aida Cruises is here along with several ferry lines...
