I've searched TT, but haven't found anything relating to saying "Happy Birthday" in all the various German dialects. Feel free to add any that I've missed. I've collected these over the years but it isn't a comprehensive list by any means. Spelling is approximate in some cases smile.gif

What ever you do, just dont do it BEFORE the actual day. Even the evening or night beore. They are very supersticious about it for some reason - I dont understand it though. Is it only the Germans that do this or do others from other countries do this as well??

I was out with a friend and her friends for a birthday dinner. The restaurant kicked us out at 11.30, and everybody insisted in standing around in the (freezing!) carpark for half-an-hour, before we could wish her a happy birthday.

For russians and other east-europeans it's also a bad omen to wish someone happy birthday before the actual day.

I really don't get it, "in den Geburtstag einfeiern".
If it's in a pub and during the week I'm like at midnight, quick clink of the glasses and home to bed.
Have the party at the weekend goddammit!
