Is there an organised meetup for this match or is it a 'i'm of to my local to watch it' event?
I was thinking of going to
Kilians to watch it as its my closest local, unless there is a TT people meet up.

Is this likely to be on any of the normal (non pay) German terrestrial or satellite channels?

Just wanted to report on what I ended up doing.
First of all I found a Premiere sports bar with no-one in it except the owner who insisted it stayed on the Germany game. Then I searched round town for any bars that just might be showing the England Russia game but alas no joy. I went to an internet cafe and tried to find a streaming site but couldn't remember the url of the site I'd seen before I left home. Returned to the Premiere Sports bar and asked if they would mind switching to the England game during half time. He did actually do this but couldn't find it. I returned home and got the details of the streaming site with Chinese and Russian channels who were streaming it and went back to the cafe. Why not do it at home you ask. Because we've got a Mac is why. At the cafe only one of the links was working and it actually brought the game up for the second half albeit in a tiny box. 5 seconds later it was gone again so I repeatedly logged back on and it repeatedly kicked me off every 5-10 seconds most of the way through the second half. Towards the end of the game when England went 3-0 up I think a lot of Russians must have stopped watching because it stopped kicking me off and I got to watch the last 10 minutes relatively undisturbed.
Not a good experience, but better than nout.

Sorry for your bad experience, England were magnificent in all honesty and thoroughly deserved the 3-0.
England playing like a team. Amazing. Who would have thought it, eh? Brilliant.

Yes, I ended up watching it there, after having established it wasn't on any German TV station, including Premiere.
My experiences were initially the same as yours, using the Media Player link. I then downloaded Sopcast and that gave a reasonable feed (if you call watching 400x300 on a 17" monitor reasonable), maybe most people couldn't be bothered to use that one. At any rate, it gave the Beeb commentary, so I was happy, especially as I got it working in time to see the 2nd goal.
Probably won't use it again unless I'm stuck, but nice to have a fall back.

I think England played very well but they certainly rode their luck a bit. Dodgy looking disallowed goal and Russia could and should have scored at least one at the start of the second half when England were still letting the half-time cuppa go down. A goal at that stage would have changed the game completely. Having said that, fair play to England in that they went on to see out the game with a 'special' goal from big bad Rio! Estonia should be a walkover, Russia away could be extremely tough and then Croatia at home will be as tense as you can get. I think England will probably need a point to go through from that game and a win to top the group.
Anyone else agree now that Ashley Cole has the positional sense of a headless chicken? My friends finally concur with me on that point.
My final impression is that this new look side seem to be a bit luckier than the other mob! The side also looks fresh and keeps looking for goals. However, I wouldn't like to be McClaren this morning because the pressure will now be on him to drop Rooney, Lamps, Gary Neville and Becks, which to most countries would simply be ridiculous.

I think Russia's goal was legal, however England played good and deserved the win.

It was a difficult angle for the ref. The guy's arm swung back as if the ball had hit it and even the slow motion replays weren't conclusive. It was a harsh decision.
Great result though and deserved even if the Russians could and should have scored one or two. It's fantastic to be able to enjoy watching England again instead of watching with dread and embarrassment as it has been for the last few years. A good team on form also needs a bit of luck and we certainly had that last night - hopefully it'll stay with us for the next games in October!

I always check
TV Today to see which Free/Pay TV channels are showing the footie.
Then double-check the individual TV website.
I don't think Premiere are showing any of the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
Unfortunately I had tickets booked for Gwen Stefani...so only managed to watch the 5 minute highlights on 'Das Erste'.
But good to see England are back on track and seem to have settled into new Wembley. The Moscow game will be key.

That's why he gets paid all that money!!! Players should have to fight for their positions in the national squad and it's the manager's job to keep an eye on everyone and pick those performing best at the time instead of sticking with the same team regardless of whether it works or how individuals perform - which is exactly what the problem was before the latest injuries.
On current form he's surely got to keep Barry, Richards, Heskey and SWP on the team! I'd leave beckham out anyway - ok, he can put in some decent crosses and free kicks but we've seen that from Barry and SWP the last couple of games and with the big guys and Owen in the box we're gonna get goals. As for Lampard, he's a good player but the Gerrard/Barry partnership works a hundred times better than Gerrard/Lampard ever did. Rooney and Neville are more difficult but it can only be a good thing that they can't take their places in the team for granted any more!
