"Ekelbier" recalled by Ingobräu, Ingolstadt

First meat was recalled, now beer, what next?

After complaints in the recent past about Ingobräu beer, five samples of three different types of beer brewed by Ingobräu in Ingolstadt, drawn from several different batches, failed the “sensory test and were classified as not fit for human consumption. In a word, the beer stinks. Further microbiological tests proved that the beer was contaminated by microbes, leading to a recall action.

The world’s oldest consumer protection law, the Reinheitsgebot, was officially proclaimed in Ingolstadt in 1516, Ingobräu was founded even prior to that, in 1507. According to a spokesperson the brewery will not celebrate its 500th anniversary until “we have done our homework, possibly next year. Until then, Ingobräu has shut down the production of Weißbier altogether and will be distributing Kuchlbauer Weißbier instead.

So what next? Rat hair in your pretzels? Glass in your mustard? Or go all self-reliant and grow, slaughter and brew your own staple food?

You could say the beer is Ekelhaft.

groan.

Yes, she did.

Whoever drinks Ingobräu deserves no better. 3 yrs of bad experience living in Ingolstadt.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

OMG, microbes in beer. I hope it doesn't contain that nasty saccharomyces cerevisiae which was never included in the Reinheitsgebot. ph34r.gif

Notabene: The recall, according to the article, involved Weißbier only. But I would not risk drinking any of their other products myself, nothing worse for your insides than dodgy beer.

And they were getting ready for a 500 year anniversary - this year sad.gif . More info here.
