I am looking to store a few bags for about a week somewhere in Munich. I know the train station has lockers but I don't think that they can be used for so long. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Do you want somewhere where you pay to store the bags, or are you just looking for a Toytowner who'll put them in their cellar or spare room?
Somewhere near the lockers at
Hauptbahnhof there's a counter where you can hand stuff over to be stored. I think it's usually used for things that are too big to fit in the lockers - skis, large bags etc. I don't know how long they'll keep stuff.

I may just end up leaving my bags with a friend or work colleague, but in case that doesn't work out I wanted to explore other options ahead of time (i.e. somewhere to pay to have them stored). I will doublecheck the
Hauptbahnhof. Oh, and I will need to retrieve them on the weekend, so any place with strict
German business hours will not work for me! Thanks...

Try
www.selfstorage.de - it's open 24 hrs a day somewhere in Landsbergerstr.
...or
http://www.zeitlager.de/ who are near the
Hauptbahnhof.

There is a 24hr self storage place on Landsburger Str. 152 near the Office Depot and hardware store.

I'm going to do some travelling and will get rid of my apartment. Therefore, I want to put all my personal belongings from my apartment in storage, the volume is about 18m3. Can anyone recommend a cheap storage company - I have a lot of electronic equipment so I need something in a temperature controlled warehouse and not something in a container sitting outside.
My feeling is that the cost will be about 100€/month, but if you know of anything cheaper then this will be really appreciated...
Thanks
Dave

Most removal companies also offer storage services, so I'd just check TT for advertisers and recommended companies and pop off a few e-mails to them for quotes.
We're in process of moving, and I found
ZeitLager, which you could probably describe as a self-service storage place, so I assume it's cheap. We will probably be checking it out ourselves this week.

The place i mentioned in the post just above yours is a place central
to munich has a/c and rooms of all sizes. They even speak english
so stop by or call for a quote. Best of all the place is alarmed and
only you or the ones you auth can get in or to your stuff.
You will need to supply your own lock.

Has anyone had any further experience with this in the last 12 months?? I have got quotes from both Zeitlager.de and Selfstorage.de but there has to be more out there - I only need to store furniture for 12 months without regular access etc.
Alternatively (ha ha), does anyone want to look after my furniture for 10-12 months? There's an ikea bed, bedside table, chest of draws, wardrobe, coffee table and bookshelf, as well as kare sofa and dining table - you just have to pick it up and convince me that I can hunt you down again in 10 months' time...

crainer, what were they charging? I am considering having stuff shipped over from the us and will have to have it stored until we find a bigger apartment.

I can recommend the place we use. We pay €75 per month for about 20 square metres. A colleague at work negotiated a discount when he paid for a year up front but we pay monthly. When I got the details last night I re-read the contract which says access is 8am to 8pm Mon-Sat though I'm sure we've been there on a Sunday before and no-one said anything. It's about 40 minutes out of the city, north of Dachau. A bit of a hike but it's almost worth it just for the views over the city and the mountains behind that you get from round there. I always thought those pictures were Photoshopped….

Warning - you need a Navi or very good directions to get there as it's in the middle of no-where.

Thanks Skye - my problem has resolved itself fortunately as a friend has kindly agreed to look after the furniture while I am away.
The quote from Selfstorage.de was (monthly):
4,37 m² = 1,95 m[b] x 2,24 m[t] nur € 112,71 statt € 132,60
4,70 m² = 1,96 m[b] x 3,40 m[t] nur € 118,05 statt € 138,88
5,76 m² = 1,92 m[b] x 3,00 m[t] nur € 138,31 statt € 162,72
The first price is for a fixed 12 months paid up front - and don't ask me why the measurements don't add up.
I'll post the Zeitlager.de prices when they get back to me.

crainer,
Do tell. Will they also come pick up your stuff as you requested?
That cracked me up -
QUOTE(crainer @ May 15 2008, 1:59 pm)

you just have to pick it up
Glad you found a solution and thanks for putting up the info.
