Hello!

I am a bit new to this form but I find it very resourceful. I will be moving to Karlsruhe area next week. Does anyone have an idea what percentage of you salary goes for taxes? I will be employed as a pre-doctoral student. Can some one tell me how much is usually taken from the salaries of PhD foreign students in taxes?

thanks

Under which contract will you be employed? If TV-L(used to be BAT2-A) you should have a bruto amount of approx. 3000EUR / month which should be something like 1750 EUR at the end (that includes health care)

If you have a scholarship I cannot help you.

good luck you might need it

koubiak, where on earth did you get those numbers? They're almost 3X the figures I know for brutto.

As a current PhD student in Germany, neither I nor any of my colleagues, pay tax on our stipends. Of course that might vary depending on your studies, university and where the money comes from.

Bessel80: will you be employed by the university (i.e. by the governement) or will you be paid by a grant or stipend? if the first, taxes will be around what koubiak wrote, if the latter, no taxes seem to apply from what I learned. but you'll need to specify your status in order to receive the correct answers here.
