I will say that it's possible something similar came from Franklin -
he is 1738, known to have written a similar proverb: "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."
Regardless of who said it, the point still holds true - Be careful of what you're giving up under the guise of safety.

None of that sounds terribly official: 'researchers believe?'. Some researchers also believe that the Americans never landed on the moon.
And the only reference I could be bothered to Google:
AUTHOR: Benjamin Franklin (1706–90)
QUOTATION: Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
ATTRIBUTION: BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, Pennsylvania Assembly: Reply to the Governor, November 11, 1755.—The Papers of Benjamin Franklin, ed. Leonard W. Labaree, vol. 6, p. 242 (1963).
Anyway, I'm just enjoying playing both sides of the American/anti-American argument. See post #135. It's fun to wind up as many people as possible.

Referring to my earlier note wherein I questioned your English, it is fairly self-evident that you really do indeed need some form of rudimentary education in the subject. I illustrate this with your example of mis-spelling "dodgy" TWICE in succession. Excellent!!!
And Apologies if you are not an American, but the issue on education stands...
LMAO. Mr. Superiority complexed aka inferiority complexed guy, the word "misspelling" is not written with a hyphen. You write like a fucktard so that shows us that you learned English in a German school and you are probably German. You are not in a position to question my English cause I went to American schools and I have an American pass.

Ellipsis requires 3 periods in succession, not two. Furthermore, ellipsis at the end of a sentence with no sentence following should be followed by a period.

Fake motorcade tweaks Aussie security for Bush

SYDNEY, Australia — Members of an Australian TV comedy show, one dressed as Osama bin Laden, drove through two security checkpoints today before being stopped near the Sydney hotel where President Bush is staying.
The stunt embarrassed Sydney police who have imposed the tightest security measures in city history for a summit of leaders from Pacific Rim countries, including Bush.

No, it is not that easy. However, it is a start and even you cannot deny that. Either America says "We want to rejoin the world" or it says "Fuck you". In layman's terms, that is pretty much it.
Look, I already told you what would happen to McCain and you didn't believe me. I am telling you now that to elect a Republican would send a signal to the world that we will continue down the road of self absorption and possibly destruction while electing a Democrat will send the world a signal that perhaps we were a little off course in the last 7 years and we are ready to make amends.
The whole thing depends on the foreign policy issues which will not elect a President (Americans don't give a shit about foreign policy although they should), but those of us who actually know anything should consider the number 1 priority in deciding. We can defeat terrorism with policy, not guns. If you don't know that, then you are a lost cause.
