Hi all,
I have (had) a background in semiconductor equipment maintenance and I have a degree in electronics. I believe Dresden has picked up somewhat and I might have a shot at a field service engineer's position with TEL, Amat etc. Anyone have any thoughts? Is is picking up there as they say? I know a few guys who have been 'urged' to leave their base in Ireland (Intel) to head to Dresden. I was a good technician and have a solid reference from IBM to prove it. My german is rubbish though, but these equipment vendors do all their training in english so I was hoping it wouldn't matter too much. Thoughts? Any maintenance techs/fse's over there reading this?

I'm reading you loud and clear. Things are slow. One particular fab in Dresden was built but no tools were moved in because of a slowdown in the market for their products. Other fabs in the area are buying tools. I think it depends on which vendor you plan on getting a job with.

Ah, thanks for the reply. I have a mate working with TEL. He reckons there may be opportunities with them there.
Just how many companies operate fabs in Dresden? I'm only aware of 3, AMD, Infineon and that German one whose name I forget right now. Are there others?

AMD, Infinion, Quemonda, ZMD and maybe 1 or 2 others. Then there are reticle manufacturers too.
AMD, Infineon, Qimonda (I work at Qimonda..), ZMD. The reticle manufacture is AMTC (near AMD) .. a merger from Infineon, AMD and Photomask Dupont.

What do you do at Qimonda?
