Visiting Germany from the U.S. for a few weeks

Advice on cell phones, Internet, and interpreters

Hi All:

My family is going to be visiting Germany for the first time during the first couple of weeks of October.

We will be spending most of the time in the town my family originally came from, Ober-Ingelheim (now Ingelheim am Rhein).

A few questions:

1. What is the cheapest way to stay in contact with the US by cell phone?

2. What is the easiest and cheapest way to access the internet for a short period of time?

3. How would I go about finding a translator to talk with some of my very old, exclusively German-speaking relatives.

Many thanks.

1. There really isn't one, although callback/preselection may make things a little cheaper
2. Internet cafes
3. Do a google search for "Übersetzer" or "Dolmetscher". But be warned they can be expensive.

Maybe try and find some college students in the neighborhood? Most of them speak very good English and are always happy to make some extra money.

If there's talking involved it's an interpreter you're looking for - Dolmetscher in German.
