yeah the nordsee is a little toooo far north of the Weisswurstequator. They only play Viva Colonia with a grudge and then often they try and bavarianise the lyrics (Viva Bavaria just doesn't sound right, neh?)

A couple of weeks ago I had a cd of the German top 100, on that cd were at least six different versions of "Ein Stern der deine Name trägt" (for example "Eine Frau, die du nach Hause trägt")... so I had expected that this song would be a bit hit at the Oktoberfest. Until so far I have only heard it twice.

They played that at the Hofbräutent last Friday as a final song to basically tell everybody to bugger off.

In the Teufelsrad tonight they played "Eine Frau, die mich nach Hause trägt, die zu mir sich schlafen legt, die suche ich heute Nacht." Another verse mentioned how this wonderful girl would put aspirin on his pillow too. I've heard the original text many many times this Fest.

Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
I always thought Jimmy Buffet's "Margueritaville" would be a good evening song in the larger tents..

I'm compiling a playlist for a giant Oktoberfest here in Pennsylvania Dutch country and am looking for an Oktoberfest band recording of Country Roads. All the rest are easily found on I Tunes. Any suggestions of a CD or music site for a download?

While hits come and go there is a core collection of very traditional Oktoberfest songs that continue to be standard - classics.
Trouble is that everyone around you knows the lyrics and tunes but you do not.
Not quite as fun- but with a songbook you can join in immediately.
Our Songbook: Traditional Bavarian Oktoberfest Songs
is the most complete collection anywhere. Absolutely. This year 2009 we have a new edition vastly improved, more songs, more illustrations.

Groups and organizers have given us amazing positive feedback. The book helps convert a spectator into a participant. There is even a section for pronunciation of German and Bavarian. We also include foods, drink clothing customs- it is all you need to plug in and take part fully in any fest.
