BBC News: German spyware plans trigger row

QUOTE (BBC)
German government plans to spy on terror suspects by deploying malicious e-mails have drawn sharp criticism. The e-mails would contain Trojans - software that secretly installs itself on suspects' computers, allowing agents to search the hard drives.

I just wonder if Norton Anti Virus would detect these trojans ?

It's just that much more illegal and unworkable shit out of Schäuble's mouth. He's the closest thing Germany's got to a neocon. He's the guy who thinks that the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" is wrong and should be removed from German law. In short, a shitbag. Luckily he has little real power.

woof.

Don't think they would.. Symantec is one of the AV makers that says It hasn't been "asked yet" to whitelist such a program yet. Other than that
their being very quiet/hush hush. To me this says that they would do such a thing. They arn't the only ones.. Read this story This is just 1 of many on the net.

Now is the time to switch to a secured/encrypted ver. of Linux wink.gif

You are probably right. They finished work on the trojan despite not being allowed to do so, and a spokesperson of interior ministry said it is to be applied at all costs.

Maybe FreeBSD would be better than Linux?

OpenBSD would be your best bet, methinks ;-). Just make sure you order your CDs direct from Theo.

How are they going to make people click on the file in the e-mail?

Will it have text saying "by law you are required to click on this file and install the code" (in german of course.

Hmm.. well... no spyware writers will copy that then...

And being Germany all law-abiding terrorists will of course comply...

Get a Mac and you won't have to worry about all this shit, at least, not yet.
