as a Brit, Fanny Packs is is a funny name, but anyway,
why do so many Germans have these? Maybe cool in the late 70's early 80's but here ther are everywhere, sometimes worn over the shoulder, sometimes in the more traditional, round the waist style.
They may be useful, but just no. never. Unless on some adventurous travel/jungle trip where access to knife/bug spray/passport is required ofetn and urgently.
If you have one, how do you wear yours?
that is all.

hmm...why do germans have them?
the same reason they wear scholl sandals with socks
the same reason they have hours of television dedicated to schlager music
the same reason that they think nothing of 'nordic walking' with ski poles through the middle of town
the same reason they like pinging their fucking annoying little bells on their bikes
the same reason some of the men think leather waistcoats and moustaches are a sure sign of heterosexuality in the year 2007
resistance is futile...if you live here too long you will start eying up other men's bumbags with jealousy at their holding capacity, easy access leatherman pouch and quick release buckle design

They're supposedly more manly than a shoulder bag... and to be honest I don't find them all that bad. For me it's an improvement on my boyfriend loading everything into my handbag and asking me every ten minutes for tissues, money, his mobile phone, or cigarettes etc...
He had an old 80's relic in Camouflage green the first time we went to London, so the first present I bought was a black no fear fear one, which was a huge improvement and I can live with that.

While we're on the subject, can we get a ruling on Capri pants (or clamdiggers) for men? I will admit to wearing them in Summer, and did ever get heckled when I wore them in the States. Are they just too gay? Eurotrash chic but a no-go in Missouri? Should only be worn on vacation in Italy? Ur Thots?

I must admit that I find men in a nice pair of linen capri pants very sexy. Why can't guys enjoy different fashion too?

They live in a culture where practicality out weighs fashion
faux pars and live better lives because of it? No idea, really.

Re capri pants for men: Fashion police says no

Something is wrong with the proportions, most people (including women) look short-legged. Shorts are much better. Men in capri pants look "cute" at best, imho.

Manpris are a definate no no in the States, although I hear they are making encroachments into NYC...

This is probably right, they are not bothered what other people think of them and do not care if something is uncool if it's practical and makes life easier for them, style or no style.
The UK is surrounded by a culture of peer pressure and what's in an what's not. In the UK I think people are more self conscious and are more bothered by what people think, the Germans seem to be less judgmental.
I love the way you still see random artifacts of the 80s in Germany; it was only recently that I saw a guy in St Pauli with a Nik Kershaw mullet, driving an Opel Manta, windows down and Falco's Amadeus blaring out from his car stereo. Now that's

That is not fashion, that is a calling card-"Hey everybody look at me, I'm gay!" As for the fanny packs, their utility outweighs any connotations and that goes double for the more sporty designed ones. The one I have and use even came with a water bottle. For the last five years the water bottle holder has been used most often to carry some drink bottle for my son.

I have a Gore-Tex flat pack-belt thing I use for keys and cash when I go running. That's about all it will hold. A tissue or two, wenn's sein muss.
My xh got a butt pack for his insect allergy medication though, and he loves that thing. He was pleased that the forest green color matched the trim on his janker. Talk about high-stylin'.

Ditto, but please make the sandals closed-toe. And no socks. Then yes, they're a fabulous frame for great legs. I've seen some Dutch opas really working it. But I think in many areas of the states this would probably seem very gay.
And what's with the business-women wearing cute (or even nice leather) backpacks things with suits? "No, I'm not REALLY going to work! Your Kinder-Kirche-Kueche dreams are intact!"

As for fanny packs, how do you know that they are always German. My husband"s friend from England wears one around Munich everytime we see him.
Now for capri pants on men, why would a certain clothing be labled as "gay"? Are gay guys the only ones that should look hot & straight guys should look dowdy? If anything men are the ones that should wear capri pants rather than women. Most men have fabulous ankles that should be seen more often. It is such a more refreshing look than some Docker type Khakis.

Capri pants on men just look funny. I've never found men's ankles particularly attractive. The overwelming majority of "manpris" I've seen have also been have also been of the travel/hiking style with lots of pockets that can (often) convert into shorts. These are normally combined with hiking sandals, which are of course necessary for a bit of sightseeing in the city. Ewww.
Man in linen pants - stylin'. Man in linen capris - eh, trying too hard. Man in zip off capris with a fanny pack - only acceptable if the man in question is over 80 or hiking in the mountains

What age group would you see people wearing bum-bags? Now i don't really expect the younger generation and maybe mid 20s? to wear them. Well in Australia things are much different in terms of fashion - other than tourists, i don't see any wearing any. Cultural thing maybe. Keeping things safe is a matter, maybe the Germans are alot more secure with there items of choice so they have it tightly around them so its harder to take? While a hand bag can easily be snatched by a runner.
I tryed wearing bum bags, this was when i was younger about 15 or so and at the time i couldnt get use to them - if its a common thing in Germany i might just pick up a fancy little bag before i hit for Germany next year

. If you cant beat them, JOIN THEM!! lol.

Straight guys do not look good in girlie clothes and no guy in this world outside of myself and Robert Redford looks hot (in my opinion) and even he wouldn't look good in capri pants. Your taste seems to fall somewhere between fag hag and lesbo. Some things are for girls and some things are for guys.
Thongs on women-HOT, thongs on guys-well...

I only see tourists wearing them in town. Some of those are Germans.
I just wore mine for a few days in Prague. Can't beat them for hands free shopping and photo taking. A little trickier for the pick pockets, too.
I prefer the bigger one, lumbar pack, for hiking due to my bad shoulders.

Bum bags are practical and neither gay or not gay. Men's capri's are sexy IMHO. They can show off a nicely formed calf muscle. They're much more manly than shorts, actually.
Which one looks gay?:
Capri wearer:

or
Shorts wearer:
