"Hacker spaces" for hackers to get together

And "Improv Everywhere" groups in Munich

Another American in Munich, just moved here a few months ago. Pleased to meet you all.

Germany is well-known for having "hacker spaces" in most of its major cities -- places for hardware and software hackers to get together and build things:

Does such a thing exist in Munich? And along the same lines, is there an Improv Everywhere-like/flashmob group in Munich?

Cheers!

Thanks Dostoyevsky, and imagi! Are these events primarily German-speaking? I've just arrived and won't start classes for a few weeks still, and my German is, well, I don't have any to speak of. smile.gif I'll plan to be at the Sep 11th meeting anyway if you think it's alright.

On another topic - does anyone know of cafes or libraries with free public wifi that don't mind if you camp out for a few hours? I work from home pretty often and it would be nice to drag the laptop into the outside world from time to time.

Many thanks!

I don't know of any places with free access (which does not mean that they do not exist, of course), but check with the service provider you have at home, as they might have hotspots in Munich which you can use. (I am using 1&1 and know that they only have hotspots in Berlin sad.gif).

This site might help you out. I used to spend some time at Zooziez at Baldeplatz using their internet. They don't mind, as long as you get a drink or some food once in a while it's a very comfortable place to ... ehm, hack in your case?
