Today I was going down the stairs at Harras ( entrance under the S-Bahn), as you do, when this German woman( about 60ish) stumbled and fell headlong just about from the top all the way down.
I of course ran down to help, she sat up anfd I advised her to sit still and take it easy, which she did. Another woman came down and said "She is bleeding" And feck me the blood was streaming out of the back of her head. I pulled out the mobile with the intention of calling a medic, whereupon she got all aggresive and said she needs no help. I pointed out that she was bleeding rather badly and needed help. Then she really got bitchy at me. Telling me to mind my own buisness etc. by this time a bunch of people had gathered and all agreed that she needs an ambulance, then she got bitchy at them. So I left, shaking my head.
Still won´t stop me trying to help whenever I´m needed in future. smile.gif
Strange folk around I can tell you. blink.gif

Maybe she is illegally over here and doesn't want anyone to know she is in Germany.
Keydeck
Maybe she felt you were Harrasing her.

I'll get me coat.

She was a German I think I can spot them easy enough. But still mad as a fucking brush
boomtown_rat
maybe she was in shock. Why didnt you dial 112 anyway?
sea-king
I thought she was going to attack me! I´m a big boy but fecking hell. An old guy tapped me on the arm and just shook his head. So I went away.

I would agree with b_r. She was probably in shock, and elderly people are quite often concerned about making a fuss anyway. I would just have called the ambulance without telling her what I was doing I think...

And I missed me train, old cogers should should be kept at home. smile.gif

Fook her. Did you manage to get her purse?
interplanetjanet
She could very well have been just fine. Heads bleed like mad, even just from small cuts. Either way, she shouldn't have been so bitchy, but as kathie said, she was probably in shock.

That's interesting. It happened to me more or less the same, a couple of times.
I wanted to help a lady who had problems climbing the stairs (she almost fell) and she got angry at me.
I helped another old lady whose can of beans rolled under a car and she sounded offended.

It looks like that showing weakness here is a big problem.

I was once riding in a tram and witnessed an old man fall down in the middle of the street. None of the other people around stopped to help him. I used to think that was awful, but if old people don´t want help, is that a weird way of respecting their independence? Letting them fall and stand up without helping them?

Another time I was driving in front of Hauptbahnhof and saw a white haired little lady lying in the middle of the street. Of course I immediately stopped the car, turned on my hazards and went to see how I could help. What did the other cars do? Honked at me cos I was blocking traffic.

I still think our man did the right thing in trying to help, good on yer and don't let it deter you from offering aid in the future mate.

Aggression can often acompany head injury and brain trauma.

Very true. I had a severe concussion when I was around 15 years old and lost all memories of the previous week. I don't remember any of the accident, ambulance or treatment at the hospital, but I apparently cussed out any doctor who tried to come near me and ripped out at least three IVs. I came to around midnight that night, about 12 hours after the accident, and I had an IV stuck in the back of my hand with a wooden block on either side all wrapped up tightly in duct tape.

That night we brought to the first aid a 15 years old boy who had an accident.
I talked to him while on the ambulance, he sounded conscious but as soon as I stopped talking
he fell into coma. I kept talking.
At the first aid the doctor tried to catheterize him (he was actually in coma), but it was not
possible: the guywas so aggressive and so strong that he even lifted a 100 kilo male nurse.
The young boy weighted 60 kilos.Never seen such a wild scene.
At the end we had to bring him to a different hospital without catheterize him (rather dangerous),
even touching him to check the pulse triggered strong reactions.
I believe this is a self-defence mechanism, embedded in our DNA.

I always found that a tourniquet would stop the bleeding. biggrin.gif
Take care,

If you - even without any medical training - think that an injured person needs a doc: Call the bloody number.
Somebody bleeding copiously from their head is probably not in a position to decide. Plus shock. And then some.
They might be grateful later, but that's not the point. Somebody breaks their wrist and doesn't want an ambulance called because he's not insured: Okay. Anything involving the head: Disregard what the injured person says. Get your phone and dial!

Back in the early 90's they did a show on German T.V.They made it looked like a car accident with dummies hanging out the window covered in blood and smoke was coming from the car.Absolutely no one stopped so they made it law over here that if you see some one in need you have to help.In German its called 'Unterlassene Erste hilfe Leistung*'.Leads to heavy fines and all sorts. mellow.gif
