How do you plan to use it?
heverlee
"bake" the "tablet" in the bedroom when sleeping so the insects won't bite
used to do it before came to Germany

There are only 3 mosquitos in the country...I don't see the problem.

...but since I come from a place with more mosquitos than you'll ever dream about...I should be able to answer, but have no fucking clue what you're talking about.

Install screens or close the windows and buy an AC or put a net over the bed and stay away from chemicals that soothe the mind but do nothing. Unless that tablet is full of DEET, then it ain't gonna do shit really.

@NOFXmike, you are now a city boy. Seriously, there are way more than three out in the boonies. When I lived out in BFG, I woke up with the arm that stuck out of the covers covered in oh about 300 bites. Tis the season and there are some bad places out there when you don't have the evil AC to give you the flu and have to leave your windows open! laugh.gif

DEET spray has become a nightly ritual for me since moving to our new house. Got bitten more in the first two nights than in the last 2 years! I'm going to be running out of my Canadian stuff soon. Anyone know which German spray/lotion has the highest available concentration of DEET? I'd prefer something over 10 if possible, although I did find some OFF in Italy last summer that had 9. Haven't seen it here in Germany, but haven't honestly been searching all that hard yet. Thought someone here might know off-hand what brand/make to save me some looking around.

Thanks in advance!

anti-Mücken Spray. Get it at the Apotheke or Real Markt, Globus, etc. I know some Germans swear by Tee-baum Öl which is supposedly an Aboriginal invention. You can buy anti-bug candles at most DIY stores for your Grillparty although I don't think they work very well. Or you can pony up a few hundred Euros and order one of those mosquito terminator machines for your yard. My Dad has one and it works really well.

Well, there's no mosquitos in Seefeld, either...lived there well over 2 years. We always have our windows open all night, too.

However, none in Munich, either...well, just the three... Marge, Shirley, and Martha...they're alright.

DEET stuff is sold only at the pharmacies as far as I know (at least the stuff that actually works). It isn't all that safe and especially not for the young ones. DEET for adults is a personal choice and you can get the good stuff, but for pre-pubescent kids ask the pharmacist. There is an alternative that isn't all that bad and especially when combined with a net. The citronella stuff is a joke really and unless the anti-Mücken spray contains DEET then it too is going to be less than acceptable without the aid of nets. Sorry folks, that is just the way it is. Oh and that Skin So Soft stuff that is suppose to work so well is just a fairy tale to up the sales of the product.

Well, there's no mosquitos in Seefeld,

Not sure why you didn't get bothered in Seefeld as there is lots of water around there. I know why I got bothered in Wortelstetten as the surrounding area was a swamp. My daily chore was to kill the 30-50 mosquitoes that had gotten past the nets. When we left, the painting of the walls mostly consisted of painting over the blood spots left behind from me whacking them one.

I'm always amazed that people still believe that citronella works. In Italy last year, we were at a street festival in Milan and the mosquitos were eating everyone alive. I pulled out my Deet spray and offered it to my Italian friends, but they refused and insisted that their bio-whatever stuff was better. Within half an hour they changed their minds and asked for mine. Guess they noticed that while most folks were swatting away, I could sit still and enjoy my wine while listening to the bands. I realise that Deet isn't recomended for kids, but I've used it my whole life without any problems and aren't about to stop now, especially this summer! We have horses in the field next to the house, and in addition to regular mosquitos, we're also getting something similar to horseflies. Ugh!

Thanks for the tip about the pharmacies. I keep forgetting that in Germany you can't get stuff like that at regular stores.
