I just passed through Fasanerie on the S1 line and noticed a banner hanging on the Edeka supermarket next to the S-Bahn station that says they are open on Sundays!! Couldn't see the exact times but it looked like from 10am to 4pm. Has something in the law changed in the 10 days I have been out of town?

Possibly a special deal for the Wies'n or are they that close to the station they count as exempt from the law?
There has been no general change to the ban on Sunday retailing in Bavaria.

Each town/suburb is allowed Sunday opening 4 times a year, so it could be that this is the week in Fasanerie. Traditionally this is presented as a bit of a festival, although monging around Edeka isn't really my idea of fun.

The one at the airport isn't bad but I had the misfortune to have to visit the Edeka at the Riem Arcaden the other week.

The Edeka at the airport is about as good as they get in Germany I think; excellent wine and beer sections, and they also have a relatively good selection of that mysterious style of produce known only as "convenience foods".
IKEA in Eching is open on Sunday 9th September; it could be the same weekend that this Edeka is open. It's close by.

Well the one I saw is nowhere near
Hauptbahnhof and its a bit early to be giving O'Fest concessions. I also didnt see a date to say such and such Sunday we are open. Fasanerie is not exactly the center of the Universe so cant see why they can open and no-one else.
I going to have to get off and check this out as it would be a useful to have this as a fallback as we dont live too far away.

I'd rather drag my arse to any supermarket in inner Munich before 8PM on a Saturday or keep a tin of ravioli in the cupboard
that go to an Edeka in Fasanerie on a Sunday. I mean, a bit of kink yes, but there are limits.

I took a "long cut" home to check this out - the supermarket isn't open on Sunday, but the small bakery in the lobby is. (not too unusual then).
Na, ja, so much for hoping for Sunday shopping by stealth - actually does anyone know quite how much of a connection with "travelling" a shop has to have before it could open on Sunday? This Edeka is right next to the s-bahn station and the level crossing - I'm sure they could make a god case!

Theoretically, shops are only open for travellers - in theory, they should ask to see your ticket before allowing you to purchase something. This obviously isn't enforced. Nonetheless, being next to a station isn't enough; passengers should still form the bulk of the customers.

Especially as it's a Sunday!

They are also allowed to open on 1st April, when it falls on a Sunday

IKEA is going to stay open on sundays.
Ok, still no fresh mozzarella di bufala on sundays, just the thrill of buying a "Billy Regal" on the Day of the Lord.

What do you mean? They are open on four Sundays a year, one of which is next week. It would be illegal for them to sell products on any other Sunday and they're not going to break the law. If you can't make it to IKEA during any of the 72 hours per week that they are open, you could always order your shelving unit online and they'll deliver it to you. Much less stressful.
