World's First Automated Restaurant Opens In Germany

QUOTE
A new restaurant in Nuremberg may be the first sit-down restaurant in the world that doesn't have waiters. They've been replaced with a fully automated ordering and table service system.

And if you feel up to a trip to check it out:

So this is very close to where I live. Was thinking of trying it but not so sure now! Sounds way to impersonal for my likings. OK service in German restaurants is not so great but it is improving and is still a notch above stainless steel delivery systems. Also wonder if it is also available in English!

So are there people in the kitchen cooking and cleaning the dishes? Do you ever see an employee?

Hmm... perhaps they should get robots to clean and cook. that way the only humanes in it are the people eating.

This article might've already been posted, but here you go- Surviving Germany's Service Wasteland.

I can already see my self kicking the machine because my food is stuck inside the machine... mad.gif
Only the germans would like something like that...
P.S. When the japanese will hear about this, they will make a better version where you are served by some robots. wink.gif

I like it, no more grumpy wait people and no more tips either, unless you try to tip the computer.

BBC News: Fast Food German style

QUOTE
Germany likes to call itself the "Land of Ideas" - and over the centuries it has certainly had plenty of them. It was Germans who invented the aspirin, the airship, the printing press and the diesel engine. But Germany has surely never produced anything quite as weird as the automated restaurant. I say "restaurant" - but it actually looks more like a rollercoaster, with long metal tracks criss-crossing the dining area.

Been there done that and would not go again! The food is well below standard and the "novelty" wears thin very quickly. The dishes appear at even a more random order than in a normal restaurant!

We like going there...it is a perfect place with children...they are entertained.
But yes I must agree with Balk64, the food does come very randomly

Careful, they changed their opening hours!

Really? Your experience is very different to mine then. When we went there the food was excellent and came in exactly the order we ordered it. You can follow the order on the screen, which gives you an "ETA" for each dish. I can imagine the novelty wearing off soon, but the food was good enough when we went there that the novelty would not be our nr1 motivation for going back. Theres enough originality on the menu for the restaurant to stand without the novel serving forms.

We have admittedly only been once, but I became a "friend of s'Baggers" off the and bat we're looking forward to going again as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

According to the staff who were there when we went, the original concept was to have specvialised cutlery and serviettes in bins for self service and have people eating out of the pots the food comes in and almost no staff. Apparently so many people wanted to have real plates however that they do have serving wenches flitting aorund dealing out plates and cutlery.
