The Berliner Zeitung has a somewhat patchy article about the Mietspiegel this weekend and how to figure out how much your rent could be raised starting 1 November. From what I understand of this issue, the Kaltmiete could be raised as much as 20% but only based on the rent from 2004. The concept of a Mietspiegel is new to me, however, and I'm still trying to figure out what it means and how it can be calculated objectively. If anyone understands this any better or finds an English description of the issue, perhaps you could share. Has anyone gotten word of a raised rent yet?
