New in Stuttgart (or new to this forum)

I'll have to admit straight off that I'm not exactly new here (3 months), but have become remiss in the quest to meet new folks in the past month or so. I've met some super-cool people here on Toytown, so let's roll the dice again and see what happens.

I'm 29, from San Francisco, California, and am here on a 6 month assignment for my employer (a certain well known car company with locations littered around the Stuttgart area). Why spend the evening in when you're only living abroad for a short while? Keeping that in mind, I'm easily convinced most nights to head for a pub or (while the weather holds) biergarten.

If anybody's up for meeting up and hanging out during the evenings or exploring the area on the weekends, reply and introduce yourself here... Or for the shy kids, send me a PM. wink.gif More about me? See my blog (and facebook/myspace links), linked in my profile.

Hey thr everybody,
i think its a great idea. I see not much going in Stuttgart subforums and its always great to kick off something new. I am 24, native India. Been here in Germany for almost 3 years and now am in Stuttgart for the past 7 months. I did my Masters in Dortmund and now employed in Stuttgart. I have not met any TTers here till now since am relatively new to this forum. I down for any kind of meet ups, so definitely count me in. smile.gif

Hiya!

I'm somewhat new to the area - arrived in June - , though I've visited a few times in the past. I have met a few TT-ers so far and would love to meet more people. Most evenings or weekends, I'm up for anything. I'm going to be trying to make it to O'Reilly's at least on Tuesdays for quiz night in the future.

I'm 32, from Ontario, Canada, and am here for a year doing technical support for my company's German office.

Hope to see you all 'round

Ann

p.s. Chris: The stranger who just added you as a friend on Facebook would be me biggrin.gif

Hey everyone,

I've been living in Stuttgart (well, Vaihingen) for almost a year, but I just learned of this forum yesterday. I'm from northern California and am a speech pathologist. I enjoy making new friends and would love to learn more about Stuttgart. Pubs, live bands, karaoke and spicy foods are some of my favorites, and all in all I like to think of my self as pretty easy-going. From reading some of the entries, this sounds like a great avenue for meeting some fun and funny new people! ~Jennifer

Jenny and JSM have a look on the thread "Chilled nights out for a few beers in Stuttgart" is the most updated one about meeting/drinking in stuttgart .. and tonight we are going to esslingen if you want to join us
PilotChris
Hey Jennifer!

I'm [most recently] from San Francisco, and spent 8 great years at UC Davis. Sacramento was our playground. smile.gif You should definitely join the group in the thread Capitan Harlock linked to -- a good and fun group of people.

As an alternate possibility to the Esslingen thing, there seems to be some mini-Christmas market-like thing happening on the Schlossplatz this weekend. I don't know exactly what it is, but they have glühwein and an ice skating rink, so it feels like winter! Though... live music does sound nice!

Jenny4 and PilotChris.

I am moving to Stuttgart in three weeks (from the UK). I just wanted to say hello to fellow N. Californians. I grew up in Sacramento and although I went to CSUS I went to many parties at UCD.
Looking forward to going skiing soon. smile.gif
PilotChris
Hey Travelingpac,

Welcome (a little early!) to Stuttgart! It seems that you'll just me, as I now have one foot out the door for my return to the US. You should definitely check out the English-speaking crowds at O'Reilly's on Tuesday nights (pub quiz night) and Biddy Early's on Wednesday (karaoke night - totally packed and EUR2- cover) and Thursday (totally dead, mostly a Toytown crowd) nights. I'll be traveling in and out of Germany for a few weeks after my 'official' departure from Stuttgart, but will be passing through Stuttgart (and staying overnight) here and there, so we may still meet up.

Watch a few of the threads in this forum... The "Chilled nights out" thread usually has a roll-call of who's showing up where on what night, at least for Wed and Thursday! Drop a line when you get here!

Hello fellow BW's!

My husband and I just moved to the Stuttgart area (temporarily staying in Boeblingen) about a week ago, from Seattle, WA.
His new job at a design firm in Herrenberg has brought us here, so we'll be looking for a permanent place to rent somewhere on the S1 line, south of Stuttgart.
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to settle, or more importantly resources we can use to help us find a place??
We want to try and avoid paying an immobielien the huge fees to do this for us, so any tips on rental sites etc would be greatly appreciated!
And we have two large dogs to boot, so have somewhat "special needs" wink.gif

Looking forward to getting to know all of you through Toytown...it's a great site.

Tschuss!
~jamie

New to Stuttgart also. Recently retired from AF and starting new career in Stuttgart. Interested in meeting new folks with interests in going out for drinks, dinner or poker.

Also in the housing search to either buy or rent.

Cheers,

Hey there,
I have recently discovered this chat forum even though I have been living in Germany for the last 7 years now! Doh! I have been having such a good time reading all the messages and comments, realizing all I have been missing in all these years by becoming a total workaholic and only having my German boyfriend really to talk to and his family and friends, and watching every single episode of Sex and the City, twice... I need some of my own friends !!! While it may sound otherwise, I am actually a really fun and funny, adventurous and spontaneous (at least I was...) young at heart American, who would like to find some fun people in the Stuttgart / Ludwigsburg area to hang out with, have a drink or dinner or whatever. Will maybe try and join one of your Biddy Earlys evenings out, but in any case, hope to hear from someone, anyone out there that can relate... biggrin.gif

I've lived here for nearly 4 years and just found this place today. Are there any regular get togethers for expats in Stuttgart going on?

Why is it not cool. He can't help is name and Rommel was a fantastic general who had nothing to do w/ the Holocaust and did not agree with his country's policies, which he was later killed by the Nazis for.

Hi guys,

Am new here in Stuttgart and in this forum. Moved here since June from Malaysia and have stumbled upon TT and am really looking forward to meeting people (who speak English) and joining your activities. Am currently working in a marketing function at Daimler. Would try to make it for the Sommerfest tomorrow evening! :-)
adrianlondon
Cool! All you newbies ... just have a look through the events section and if there's anthing you fancy doing, just stick your name down and hope for the best ;) obviously, ones like the Summer festival aren't a problem; you just turn up and introduce yourself. Let the person organising the event know you're coming so they can wait for you and/or arrange to swap mobile numbers if needed.

For some other events which need to be booked or require places in someone else's car (if you have your own, then no problem) such as Strasbourg and the beer festival (Cannstatter Volksfest) might need you to be a bit more proactive to make sure you can be added.

However ... to get started ... tonight and tomorrow night it's the Stuttgart Summer Festival. As the weather's been really good here for a few weeks now, it is of course going to chuck it down with rain tonight to herald the start of the summerfest. Oh well. I can drink beer and eat hotdogs come rain or shine.

Hello all y'all,

Moving to Stuttgart with my DH and DD this month for a 3-year assignment. Tad freaked out. Ich spreche kein Deutsch. I've been *lurking* for a bit on TT, waiting for my Norma Desmond moment: Hello to all you wonderful people out there in the dark.

ahem.

Yes, I have delusions of adequacy, and am often one chicken shy of a church-picnic (welcome to motherhood; leave your brain at the door.) But, I can also occasionally be both fun & funny, and have wide-ranging interests. Looking forward to meeting english-speaking locals for: good food, good drink, political talk, book & film appreciation. I enjoy yoga, biking, korean food, shopping (not my proudest hobby; I am an ashamed fashionista), and pretending to be busy whilst day-dreaming.

ooh..TMI

See you in September!

I'm semi-new! Moved here in June from DC area... I live in central Stuttgart by Stadmitte.

Looking forward to meeting more people here.

Hi Danielle,

I lived in DC (Adams-Morgan and Kalorama area) for 5 years...and miss it very much still. We will be moving in to our flat here at the beginning of next month. It's in Stuttgart Sud and has a garden so I'm looking forward to hosting some socializing with TT friends before the damp chill drops in...

DH /DD? Is that "Dead Husband" and "Dead Dog"? ;-)
DamienRothstein
Totally forgot that I had not actually posted here as of yet ...

So, I'm also semi-new (June of this year). Have not had a lot of experience on the TT forms(s) but, I did meet Imran at Bidy's when his team won the trivia night last week!!! :-) Anyway, so, I live in Hasenbergstr. in West-Stuttgart. Have been enjoying the experience thus far.

I was previously living in DC, in the Annandale area ... and in the Old Town area before that. After nearly three years, I needed a change ... I am certainly not a "beltway bandit" :-)

Ciao!
Damien

Hi Laura,

Your flat sounds really nice, I'm jealous of your garden! Keep me posted on when you are going to host a TT event there, I'd love to join! We definitely have to make the most of the last days of summer.

I lived in Arlington area. I miss some parts about it but am loving the German experience... smile.gif

Hi all, not exactly new here, but haven’t been on for a while.

While I have been away activity has certainly seemed to pick up in the Stutty-Ludwigsburg area.

Living in the Marbach area so Ludwigsburg , Stuttgart are only a short train ride away. Will be looking out for any events coming up in the coming weeks . Or if anyone is up for a beer or a bite sometime lemme know.

I just moved here in June myself. There's quite a few new faces here recently.
Give the dining get togethers a shot, you learn your way around, find some good restraunts, and always end up with some interesting conversastions.

If you live in west or mitte and want to get together for eat/drink/bored just shoot me a message.
sinaTO
Hey!

I'm new to TT but not exactly new to Stuttgart. Was born here but moved to Canada when I was 6. I've now been working in Toronto at a Vaihingen-based company for over 2 years now and spend about half my time in Stuttgart. Looking forward to meeting some new people outside of work slash family smile.gif
