Fortnightly drinks in Heidelberg or Mannheim - Germany

It looks like more and more English speakers and/or expats (or those with English fluency) from the Rhein-Neckar triangle are turning to Toytown for some fun and entertainment. And what better way to get out of the house, meet some folks and fight off the fall/winter blues than with a regular meet-up?

I suggest every second Tuesday night, alternating between Heidelberg and Mannheim (or Ludwigshafen if anyone knows a good convenient place to go), anywhere in between or wherever in the Rhein-Neckar triangle. I'll organize the first coupla' events; thereafter, it might be cool to get some voting going on and then leave it up to whomever who made the suggestion that gets the most votes, to make a reservation. Let's hope we can get a fancy sign-up sheet and get old discussions archived.

Us Mannheimers haven't done much travelling lately, i think we should give the heidelbergers a night off the train and OEG.

Thanner is cool but I have already been there and felt like trying somewhere different - that was my only reason for suggesting Merlin

Thanne is your basic local watering hole while Merlin is more on the chic side. Both are good. There's also Maximo which is also about a 10min walk form the Hbf. For food, Thanne is better. Speaking of food there's also the Schwarzer Peter which is also close and has excellent food.

For me i'd prefer earlier around 7.30/8 then we have to time to relax before rushing for trains back. Plus for my other half he can come direct from work in Leon-Rot and doesn't have to come to Mannheim first.

Hi there, sorry I can't come along this time. Just another suggestion to put into the pot. I quite like Zeiglers/Billy Blues which you can get to quickly on the tram from the station, its straight next to Bizmark platz on Bergheimer strasse Food is excellent (and quite innovative) and they have a great range of cocktails, and if you fancy it, it has a separate disco there too. Pity the meet is not on a Monday as they have all you can eat Wings and Ribs.

ah, it doesn't really matter, but now i prefer Thursday because I have been invited to the Neckarwiese for a picnic on Friday evening and I am not certain when I would be home. If there is outdoor seating at Tomate, that would be cool too. I miss beer gardens *sniff sniff*.
